"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

My biggest fear is not that the new Congress will try to do too much (although that has loads of potential for disaster, particularly if impeachment comes into it, much as I'd like to see it happen), but, rather, much as the Dems rolled over and played dead for the last six years because they were terrified of losing what little they had to the GOP (which wasn't much), they'll be so terrified of losing their new narrow majority (and have their eyes so dead set on '08) that they won't do anything substantial for the next two years, or, worse, keep rubber stamping ostensibly compromised versions of Bush's agenda.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

So like...our batshit insane are creative self-starters.

More like our batshit insanos are not part of a mainstream organized political movement.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

I want all of those things.

I want a government that admits that governing is a responsibility, not a game to be won or a right to be abused. Also, that things like roads and firefighters and the National Institutes of Health are nice things, and should not be neglected just because they're not sexy.

Some firefighters are sexy.

Firefighters can be sexy...

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

megan is me WRT Franken, Rhodes and Garafalo -- which last makes me sad, as I have so many reasons to be fond of Janeane and I essentially agree with all her politics; it's just that she gets ranty and screedy and full of such blind verbally violent hatred that I can't bear to listen to her.

OTOH, she's the most mainstream commentator/pundit/misc. media voice on the left I can think of who spews like that; there are plenty worse folks, God knows, but they all seem to be plenty more obscure.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

And you know really, I don't want indictments, I don't want hearings, I don't want an impeachment. I just want my habeus corpus back.

I'm afraid my vengance is up. I want half of Halliburton indicted, Cheney resigning in disgrace, Rumsfield out on his ass... I want Bush and his administration so hamstrung for the next two years that Bill Clinton gets up every morning, turns on C-Span, and chuckles "paybacks a bitch, chimp boy"

Oh! And a rousing chorus of "Howard Dean was right on the 50 state plan -- lets elect him President"

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Pelosi has pretty much committed to no impeachment proceedings, so I wouldn't hold my breath for those. However, everything else is out there, so I really hope that some of those new committee chairs get cracking on some relevant hearings come January.

Ballot issues are a bitch to track down info about, especially if you're looking for as official as possible results. I still have five that I think are too close to call (2 in MO, 2 in CO, and 1 in AL), even though the local papers have called all but the AL one. Took me 3 1/2 hours to finish.

Now for lunch!
