You're wrong about River. River's not on the ship. They didn't want her here, but she couldn't make herself leave. So she melted... Melted away. They didn't know she could do that, but she did.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Ann Coulter is a best-seller.

Yeah. And MSM news shows have her on as if she actually has something sane to say....

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

I think Ann Coulter is a sideshow, though, to the majority of people who watch her. I know lots of liberals who find her hilarious, the same way they laugh at Dr. Phil and before him. Dr. Laura.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

I'd bet good money that the vast majority of Americans have no idea who Randi Rhodes is (I'm not even sure I do)

I'm sure most people don't know her. She has been doing radio all over the country for some time and has the afternoon drive time slot on Air America (after Franken's show). One thing I liked about her was that she was always clear to source her information and tell you how to access it.

DSCC:

Both Jon Tester and Jim Webb have won their races in Montana and Virginia but want to make sure that every vote is counted. We expect to have official results soon but can happily declare today that Democrats have taken the majority in the U.S. Senate.

Montana Vote Situation: Jon Tester leads Conrad Burns by approximately 1,700 votes (as of 11am EDT) and counting. In Silver Bow County (Butte), a Democratic stronghold, votes are still being counted but Tester is winning there with 66% of the vote. We expect to gain the majority of these uncounted votes and to add to Tester's margin.

Montana Process: When the counting phase is completed, a canvass will verify the vote tallies. That process could take as long as 48 hours, and must begin within three days and end within seven. Unless the canvass shows the margin to be within ΒΌ of 1%, there is no recount. As the loser, Burns would have to request the recount. When the votes are all counted, we expect to be outside that recount margin.

Virginia Vote Situation: Jim Webb is up by approximately 8,000 votes and once the provisional ballots are counted, we expect Webb's margin to increase. (Please note that VA absentees were included in the tallies from last night.)

Virginia Process: A canvass is underway to verify the results and we expect that process to finish within a day or so. To be in recount, the margin needs to be less than 1% and Allen (as the loser) would have to request it. Because of Virginia voting laws, the margin would have to be much tighter than it currently is to see any change in the outcome. Given the current margins, that is highly, highly unlikely.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I think liberals laughing at them while large amounts of non-liberals take them TOTALLY seriously is part of the problem. These people yeild a lot of influence.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

These people yeild a lot of influence.

Yeah, my parents, who watch Fox News exclusively, were among the people who thought Mark Foley was a Democrat. We don't generally talk politics, but my mom mentioned on the phone to me that she thought it was terrible that the Democrats had shielded one of their own after he'd molested teenagers. I'm not a double-take kind of guy, but my reaction there was broad enough to play on a sitcom. If I'd had a mouthful of water, I would have spewed it. But ignorant though she might at times be, she's my mom, so I broke the truth gently.

What is even happening?

I don't think the level of vitriol can be compared without taking into account the relative level of influence the vitriol has. The insano-extreme left is widely acknowledged by everyone to be insane and extreme, but Bill O'Reilly is taken seriously by a frighteningly large number of people. I'd bet good money that the vast majority of Americans have no idea who Randi Rhodes is (I'm not even sure I do), but Ann Coulter is a best-seller
Yeah, tommyrot's statement was about hatred from conservative bloggers. It wasn't further qualified. I'm not going to try to think of anyone on any side of any aisle who says more vile things than I've read Coulter say.

I was telling family in email, I feel cautiously optimistic this morning.

And you know really, I don't want indictments, I don't want hearings, I don't want an impeachment. I just want my habeus corpus back.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

And you know really, I don't want indictments, I don't want hearings, I don't want an impeachment. I just want my habeus corpus back.

Oh, yes, so very this. If this election could signal a return to things working more or less the way they're meant to under the constitution, I'd be happier about that than anything a million vengeance fairies could wreak.

but if the vengeance fairies want to put some itching powder in the RNC's collective underpants just to make sure they have all their bases covered.....

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

tommyrot's statement was about hatred from conservative bloggers.

True, but I don't think it's irrelevant that wingnut bloggers have bigwig wingnut pundits to quote from, while insano-leftist bloggers have to make up their own rants. It leads to a uniformity of insanity on the extreme right that I don't think exists on the extreme left.
