"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hmmm. Fifth and Harrison is on my way to get Emmett.

We had our pediatrician appointment. Matilda is gaining some weight back already. Which was really our only concern. Beyond that JZ was extremely gratified to have her daughter praised for her cuteness. I'm pretty sure the ladies at the taqueria gave me extra meat because my daughter is adorable.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

My manager just hugged one of the other managers. Now I'm all fired up about who needed consoling, and why.

Or, you know, whatever.

Yeah, I got over that pretty quickly.

Get your own Mr. Gordo.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Venture Brothers just keeps getting more and more creepy.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Venture Brothers just keeps getting more and more creepy.

Hec and I watched it late last night and laughed and laughed like drains, but, yeah, it's incredibly fucked-up. Emmett's been loving up lots of S1 Venture Brothers (and some of S2, except the first two episodes really creeped him out), but I kinda think this ep may need to be buried deep in the TiVo's bowels behind a complex maze of subfolders and parental passwords. Great stuff, but in a desperately fucked-up way, and fucked-up in a desperately grown-up way.

Hec warned me not to follow the news today and not to click on any link having anything to do with the Amish schoolchildren, which is probably wise given that I had a minor meltdown this morning over some rapper I had never heard of before whose wife had a severely premature daughter the same day I had Matilda, and the poor little thing didn't survive. I just wanted to snuzzle Matilda and apologize to the bereft rapper and his wife forever. So I'm very carefully knowing nothing but the vague outline of the Amish schoolchildren story; even the outline is making me shaky with rage, though.

What is even happening?

JZ, I thought about you when I heard all the horrible news. When Ben was a baby (and not as new as Matilda, I don't think), there was a news story running about a cat who kept running into a burning building to save all five of her kittens, one at a time. I think her name was Scarlett. This was over ten years ago, and I still can't make myself look for stories.

Tell us about Matilda. Tell us how beautiful she is, and what she does that slays you. Tell us about you. You worked so hard to have her. How are you recovering? Are you feeling yourself? How are you sleeping?
