HAPPY NORA DAY! It's a glorious day that has you in it.
I was told by a temp agency that I went through that they don't tell you because they are afraid you'll steal or deface property or something, that it's the temp agency's job to tell you. I've never had the temp job not go permanent.
Aidan saw a firetruck parked in the grocery store parking lot. He's a happy boy this morning.
{{SA}}! Your story is happening now. That makes it a trump by default. BUT! It's an hour commute in Ireland! That can't be bad.
I LOVED doing temp work. I got along great with the gals in the temp office and would take some of the "junk jobs" no one else wanted. But those were the ones that usually ended up being the most fun. I think my favorite was working in the quality control group at the Cornuts factory. I learned how to test for flavor and freshness. I even learned how to coat the Cornuts in small batches. Then I had to take time off to get my wisdom teeth out and they replaced me.
Happy Wonderful Excellent Birthday, Nora!
Libkitty, does this:
I've been looking forward to this conference and was thrilled when it was approved
mean you'll be in Monterey in October?
SA, I hope the new job and the new bank work out well.
I don't miss temp work at all.
Also gronk.
Hi Sean! I hear you're cleaning out my garage today. Remind ND to give you a book that you are going to LOVE that I am loaning to you. It's the one that Fay recommended, and I devoured it:
The Lies of Locke Lamora.
I hated temp work. They'd call me at 2 in the afternoon and say "We need you to be at a meeting across town in an hour to take notes." "I don't take dictation, that's not on my skill sheet." "Well, you're the only one we have. If you don't do this, we'll put you down as refusing work and take you off our lists." "Bye."
Then another job they sent me on was a typing job that was supposed to take two days, and the only reason it took me four hours was because the guy I was typing for decided to add a new paragraph after I showed him the finished job.
Then again, my first temp job was working with the email manager at Novell, which is where I learned my basics of computer knowledge, and look at me now.
Happy Birthday Nora! May it rock like a rocking thing!
Friend arrives for the weekend tonight...guess I should make the guest bed and find some clean towels.
Then again, my first temp job was working with the email manager at Novell, which is where I learned my basics of computer knowledge, and look at me now.
Yeah, I learned Microsoft Access at my first temp job, which lead to my current job....
I don't miss temp work at all.
God, me neither. The only good thing about temping was that it kept me from being broke, and not being broke was the only thing keeping the soul-sucking depression at bay. (Temp-to-perm is a whole nother thing. Chronic temping made me want to curl up in a ball and cry. For two years.)
