Steph, if you get a chance could you email me? It may seem an odd request, but I have some questions, and I think you're the best person to ask.
Me Steph? Or one of the other Stephs?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

So it looks like we'll be getting married on Friday the 13th. How utterly brilliant is that? VERY.
Sounds like it was meant to be Jars!
Congrats, Jars! Yay!
So the company I've been temping for the last three weeks has just hired the long-term receptionist, I guess yesterday, and brought her in today to show her around. Now, when I went on this assignment, I was told that it would be until the 29th of September, and while I appreciate that temp work can and does change very quickly, it would have been nice to know this, say, yesterday when they hired her so that I could at least try to line up work for next week. Actually, they haven't really told me yet--I overheard that she was starting on Monday when the HR person was introducing her to everyone. So I called my recruiter and she said she would find out what's going on. Maybe it's supposed to be a training period, and I'm being kept on while she's training? But it's not like this stuff takes a rocket scientist to figure out; I had the majority of it down in about a day and a half. So I'm kind of ticked off that they didn't tell me, and that I might not have work next week, at least not for a couple of days. Argh.
Also, it's really different way you're treated as a temp as oppposed to a full-time employee. I mean, it's not like I expect to be awash in greetings, and everyone's friendly; but they just gave her more information about the company, the people, and office policy in about ten minutes than they gave me at all. And it's stuff I should have known, not had to pick up on my own. Strange, this temping thing.
And as follow up, yeah. Last day today. I probably shouldn't have gotten as attached to this job as I did; it's not anything special. But it was a good place to work. I wish I'd had two more weeks. Looks like there's a gig at a hospital down in Dun Laoghaire, though, that I can start on Monday so at least there's no break in my paycheck.
I loved working temp. It was always new and different and by the time people start to get on your nerves it is on to the next place. I hope the hospital has nice people SA.
ION, no spinach omelette for me this morning. This spinach thing really has bothered me. I ate spinach salad in 2 different restaurants the last 2 days. I eat the stuff all the time. The 50 cases in 8 states haven't included Florida, but still, E. coli - ick!
If you haven't seen the FDA warning it is here: [link]
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is issuing an alert to consumers about an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 in multiple states that may be associated with the consumption of produce. To date, preliminary epidemiological evidence suggests that bagged fresh spinach may be a possible cause of this outbreak.
eta: I really can't spell at this hour
You are invisible in an odd way though, sometimes.

Well, the thing is, the people here were great. They're the reason I'm sad to leave! But I hope the hospital has nice folks too--it's like an hour communte, though, train and bus. But the train goes down the coast. I just wish it weren't so far out.

Yeah. Definitely.
An hour commute isn't good unless you are able to read or otherwise use the time. In my train days I enjoyed the coffee and newspaper time. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to read as much.
