Some of the acting is awkward in a David Mamet sort of way (John, Ed O'Neil's character, the new motel owner),
As a side note, Ed O'Neil is in fact a Mamet alum, from The Spanish Prisoner, if nothing else.

I haven't seen any episodes yet, but David Milch has a whole lot of goodwill from me he'd have to burn off.
JfC is very...strange. How can they live where they live and have only one Hispanic character? I'm not sure I understand the point. It's interesting, just not captivating.
Also, these people are far too angry to be surfers. I mean really.
I finally watched the first two episodes of Entourage. I'm not sure if I like it yet but I'm willing to finish off the other episodes on the disc and see how I feel. I want to like it because I've heard good things but it's definitly not flail at first sight.
Also on the fence about JfC. I'll stick it out for another one or two but so far it's only okay. Certainly not worth dumping Deadwood for.
Serial: This week's Maakies strip.
That's really great. IOrN, Drinky Crow got picked up for three eps, although as I understand it, they are trying to get more.
I've only watched the first ep of John from Cin. thus far, but I am liking it. It's weird in a way that works for me.
It's taken a while, but I can finally look at Jennifer Beals as Bette, L-word art dealer, without thinking "Oh! Flashdance chick!" I don't know why it took so long...didn't really like "Flashdance" but I guess she was *so* the face of 1984...
