First full trailer for the new HBO adaptation of His Dark Materials: [link]
I stalled on the books, but the trailer looks excellent, with spot-on cast. I never bothered with the film adaptation of The Golden Compass from several years ago but this looks much more promising. Maybe I'll pick up the books again.
Ruth Wilson and James McAvoy -- be still my heart.
So, Watchmen. I haven't read the book in a while so a lot of the premiere was me going "Oh right, that's a reference to something" without having a terribly firm idea of what the reference was.
Just watched the Watchmen pilot and I am intrigued. I only read, like half the book years ago plus watched the Synder movie and tried hard to scrub it from my brain (*cringes in memory of "Hallelujah" sex scene) but I'm really digging to the way the show-runners have updated this adaptation for the present time. The world-building is complicated and meaty, and I like the sparseness of explanation -- even when things are WTF-making like the scenes with Jeremy Irons and his android? clone? servants (Tom Mison from Sleepy Hollow!). I guess Irons is supposed to be Ozymandias?
I love Regina King and psyched to see her front and center in something so high profile.
I was going to ignore Watchmen but now I think I'll give it a chance.
I wonder if I still have my old Rorschach t-shirt.
Has anyone dipped into Catherine the Great yet?
I haven't read the novel, do I need to before I watch the show? I have it recorded.

I just watched it and I think you'll get a lot more out of it if you've read the graphic novel first.
