Well, yeah. ::sheepish::
Premium Cable: The Cursing Costs Extra
[NAFDA] A thread for the discussion of all original programming on HBO, Showtime, Starz and other premium channels.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
2 additional thoughts this morning:
I don't think I've seen a more successful build-up of pre-battle anxiety. The first, what, 10 minutes? were seriously nerve-wracking, just in anticipation, not even from imminent danger.
So, Dany's claim has been built on
- Bloodline
- Dothraki army
- Unsullied
- Dragons
After this ep, she's down to
- a dragon
And Missandei! And Grey Worm! And Tyrion!
Plus Jon "Aemon-T" Snow still wants to incestuously jump her bones.
Am I the only one who feels let down that the biggest big bad was dispatched in one episode? Cersei should have been the lesser of 2 evils.
Also, I read something that said both dragons survived. I'm surprised but ok.
No, I think Cersei is the biggest evil of the series, and has been from the beginning. She set everything in motion.
I think they did too good a job of making the ice guys invulnerable and scary, because thematically I agree with sj but they have really played up the dead threat recently. Uneven writing has been pretty much par for the course for the last three seasons so I'm not surprised they haven't done a great job with that messaging.
It was 100% a Buffy denouement with Arya smashing his power center and defeating the unbeatable horde with one blow.
Bah, I say.
There was much to recommend it, but I don't give a shit about bad guys who don't talk who are Ultimate Evil and get dispatched by One Moment Of Truth.
I can't believe they spent so much money and shot it in the dark. Also, I hate the action scenes that were all a confusing blur. I much prefer fight / action scenes where the action is clear and comprehensible and has its own narrative thrust.
Lady Mormont vs. the zombie giant was great. Arya fighting on the steps was great. Loved the scene with her in the library. Actually thought the scenes with Theon and the iron borne worked well enough.
I hated the Bourne sequels resort to shaky cam action and I just think it's lazy filmmaking. It makes you tense while you watch it but it does not stay with you as story at all. And there's no need to revisit it.

I wonder if Samwell is now Lord Tarly. I suppose it depends on whether his brother had any heirs.

I guess he is released from his vows at this point.
