Premium Cable: The Cursing Costs Extra
[NAFDA] A thread for the discussion of all original programming on HBO, Showtime, Starz and other premium channels.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
Now that Vorenus has followed Antony to Gaul, and Pullo is following, it will be interesting to see if they both end up on Antony's side or Octavian's.
The potential's there for them to end up on opposing sides. If Vorenus doesn't pull his head out of his ass soon. I think Pullo likes and respects Octavian--and would certainly follow him. I just hope Vorenus realizes that Octavian is the one protecting the Republic (go Pax Romana!) and that Antony just wants to be another tyrant.
I think the biggest reason I love those two is because they were real (mentioned in Julius Ceasar's writings) but we have no idea how they turned out. The rest of the characters have documentation. So, no historical spoilers for Lucius and Pullo.
but I didn't make the connection to foreign garb in a foreign land and calling on his own gods. Reinforcing his Roman-ness. Interesting.
Yep. The overgrown hair, the messy beard; but the most telling thing was the mantle over the long tunic. It fit him beautifully, but it was definitely Turkish. And you could see, writ in every line of his body, how tired he was being away from home. From Rome, from civilisation. It was reflected in Attia's same wariness about going to Macedonia.

This is very true. I mean, I hope that Vorenus has found some small part of himself while exiling himself in Gaul, or will come back to himself when Pullo tells him his children are alive. But I could easily see it going the other way too. I also don't expect Antony to just let Vorenus go in the middle of civil war, even if his children are in need of rescue. So that'll be an interesting conflict.
So, no historical spoilers for Lucius and Pullo.
Also, they are so fantastically three dimensional and deep. I could watch just the Vorenus and Pullo show and be happy. I love them.
I saw my first full episode of EXTRAS last night, after catching only the Bowie portion of the last episode, and while at times it was almost watch-from-hall cringe-worthy (though still funny), it also made me laugh like drain. Daniel Radcliffe was absolutely hysterical, and his interactions with Diana Rigg were priceless. I'm ashamed to say I totally didn't recognize who she was until DR asked her if she still had the Avengers cat suit.
Feeling "skanky, and kinda gay," this morning...Watched The L Word disc one yesterday. Some of those women are amazingly hot. Pam Grier is still awesome. That's all I've got because I think it is not supposed to *mean* much. Like Sex and The City that's gay.
(Except for that whole thing of a group of women seeing themselves on TV and stuff. Which I kind of get, because there's never been a crip show. If there is I want it to be a Sorkin joint...cause "rolling and talking" shots would be too damn funny, you know?)
The L Word pretty much sucks. I enjoyed S1 and somewhat enjoyed S2, but since then it's just really really bad. Still Jennifer Beals and Leisha Hailey keep me coming back for more. How hot is J Beals?????
She's beautiful. Still not much of an actress, but very beautiful.
So, I'm actually kind of sold on New!Octavian. I love the slightly reserved quality he portrays the character. I mean, I loved the original Octavian more? But this guy will do. I also really dig that with Agrippa and Poet!Guy, it's like a new generation of Roman leaders, which is entertaining. And the scene in the slave camp was just heartrending. I'm really wondering what new trajectory the Pullo and Vorenus storyline is going towards next, because I have no clue. Although I titter at the idea of Pullo and Vorenus raising the kids. Together! Like two dads. Yes.
Hm, I like her on the show. I think she's pretty good. Then again, maybe the beauty factor is influencing me...

Yeah, I'm slowly coming to terms with him. I think he's doing a great job (it can't be easy stepping into an established character and retaining enough of the original actor's mannerisms that the audience can see the continuity), it's just going to take some time before I'm able to look at him and not see Wrong!Octavian.

Vorenus' kids have two daddies! Love!

Exactly!
Vorenus' kids have two daddies! Love!
I know! Of course, this line of thought leads my brain to a weird sitcom version of Rome, "My Two Patriae," with Pullo trying to convince Vorenus to let their son go into, I don't know, bull fighting or whatever, and Vorenus being all "My son will serve Rome! Just as we did!" Etc, etc. So, so wrong. But hilariously wrong.
