The Wire...demands investment, in a way, Cindy. Which probably makes it sound not-fun, but it really can be.
Well maybe investment sounds not-fun to those people. Out there. But I get that. I watched it once or twice, but I think it conflicted with something else for me, at the time.
My mother likes to do bunches of things at once so the pacing of The Wire kind of drives her apeshit.
Pre-BtVS, I read books while watching TV. It drove both my husband and mother nuts that I could do it. I maintain they were just jealous. Much like crime though, fandom (and possibly motherhood) makes you stupid (or me, anyhow).
I'm just squatting here, by the way. We ditched our premium cable a while back to save some money, but I just love that brand new thread smell.
We have an agreement that, should the cancer come back and leave her days numbered the last thing she'll do at work is say "English, motherfucker, English!"
Too funny, erika. Not funny enough to excuse the cancer, which just had better mind the de-invite spell. But still. Funny.
That's it in a nutshell. I'm a night owl.
I used to be. Dh would always fall asleep before I did. I was always half a season ahead of him. Now, most nights, he's waking me up, to get me to go to bed to sleep.
I know what this thread needs now(drags in '70s style orange couch)
The boys from the towers used to sit there and talk about life and who invented the McNugget and stuff.
And funny as that would be, we would prefer it if the cancer stayed gone, of course. But we just cracked up at the frustrated detectives making up a language and pretending to talk because they were so bored with "I...don't...speak English." as a response.
And Mom saw the Bunk do that and said "That's what I would do, if I found out I had a week to live and didn't need a reference anymore."(Neither of us would be out of place in the Simonverse, obviously.)
Because I said "Cool. You promise?"
erika, I
t heart
your mother.
Me too...though we're a lot less Rory and Lorelai and a lot more Munch & Stanley.

Thought the fans might love it and it might intrigue those of you who have not found The Wire love. Yet.
Simon's still mine, though. Bad enough I have to share him with that other blonde mystery-writing chick, you know? Oh, and Baltimore, of course.
Stephen King's column in EW this week is all about The Wire. I can't find it online, alas.
Just finished S3 of The Wire with my wife. Waiting not-so-patiently for tomorrow to catch the Deadwood end of fucking all.
Entertainment Weekly sucks cock by choice, in that their online things are subscribers only.
I missed Deadwood too...also hip to "Why couldn't they wait?" not to be a fannish punk-assed bitch, or anything, especially as I was late to the fuckin' soiree and all. It must cost a lot...not that I mean that in a bad way. But that kind of period detail and stuff don't come cheap.
But okay, *don't* run Monster-in-Law fifty million times...we'll all live.
I am not sure how I feel about the last ep of Deadwood.
I am actually a little anxious about Entourage right now. All the agents making the same pitches, and then Ari's pitch being the same, too - unexpectedly sad.
I am not sure how I feel about the last ep of Deadwood
Well, I'm more pissed at HBO, that's for sure. That had a lot of loose ends for a
season
finale, let alone a series. Those DEADWOOD movies better happen, but, even if they do, there's a lot of ground to cover.
In a related note, I was watching some of the extras on the last disc of season 1 DEADWOOD, and it was interesting that Bullock later worked closely with/for Teddy Roosevelt, given that one of TR's claims to fame was taking on "captains" of industry not unlike Hearst.
Those extras were really interesting, weren't they? So many seem like afterthoughts because the audience has come to expect them.
But then of course in Season 2's disc, Olyphant does a commentary that's completely silly(but it's worth a few minutes because it shows he's...like the anti-Bullock in real life.)
Bullock reminded me of Tim Bayliss this season, some...though I'm not saying I need a I'd Shag Seth Bullock t-shirt.
