House o' Reason GoT report: we watched the Red Wedding episode last night. I accidentally gave Pete a vague idea of what might happen because I mentioned I was going to possibly leave the room at one point since I had been warned by you peeps. Tho' he assumed that my comment was related to my mother figure dying issues, not Oh G-d my poor baby Arya and not the wolf too! issues.
But he was suitably impressed with the grimness and sheer lack of honor in the massacre. He's also kind of cynically amused by the people who completely freaked out over the Red Wedding, and theorizes that many of them don't have a lot of experience with the epic fantasy genre.

I don't know - how many epic fantasies kill off that many main characters at once less than halfway through the series? Because I was pretty floored by it in the book.
Jess, that's pretty much what I said. I may have followed it up with some comments about how he always complains that stories don't have enough plot twists, or how everyone lives. I think it's just that, if Pete were writing an epic fantasy, the main character death count would be as high as GRRM's.
Well, perhaps they need to familiarize themselves with the craxy world of actual medieval dinner parties.
Oh, god, Jon Stewart's unrepentant Red Wedding spoiler on last night's Daily Show was really well delivered. I clapped my hands in delight.
