Because books.

I think that's my only disconnect -- I seem to remember before the series began and I started reading the books that some people were upset by Martin's treatment of women. But I think there are a lot of really strong women characters in the series. Am I misremembering that?

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Big C: I love the addition of Victor Garber to the cast.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

No, Amy, I think I can remembr some of the same complaints -- it's easy to dismiss on the surface, but then the same people tend to read the books as a glorification of knighthood and ye olde Medieval Times, which they aren't either.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I think most of those complaints came after certain events in book 4 and 5. Which I can understand, even if I don't agree.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I am sitting in my car dealership for major routine maintenance on the car and when I checked my car in, the attendant had "Game of Thrones" DVD set on his desk.

I said "that's a good series, right?"

He said: "yeah, but some of those things that occur, it is surprising to know they happened back in those times!"

!!!

So, while I am sure plot points and descriptions are drawn from European medieval times, I never did think dragons, witches, and demons coming from a woman's loins were part of our shared medieval history.

Did I miss a class in college? Or is this the Enlightenment?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

That's why it's so surprising, right?

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

In non-GOT news, I am finally making my way through Rome. I'm only on S1e4, and really, can I just have the Lucius and Titus Pullo show? Ciran Hinds is great as Ceasar, but the show is by far at its most enjoyable when Titus Pullo is on screen.

Trust me, you don't want to get rid of Atia and especially you don't want to get rid of Octavian. That is one amazingly fucked up family.

Art Crawl!!!

I read that somebody from Cabin in the Woods (which I haven't seen yet) has been cast on Spartacus.

People what sort of education did you have that you missed that important chapter on giving birth to a smoke-child assassin?

Or how to properly hatch dragon eggs via self-immolation?

I am shocked. Shocked.
