It is hard not to be spoiled when you kinda need the references, and if you're going to get spoiled then reading the source is the purest way to go about it.
Which is to say, makes perfect sense to me, Amy.

Amy - have your read the other books or just A Game of Thrones?
I just started A Clash of Kings, sumi. Loving the new characters being introduced so far, but I'm not even past the prologue.
I started reading A Game of Thrones about a week before the series aired. I finished A Feast for Crows a couple weeks ago. That series consistently went places I never thought it would go! OMG, can it be June 12th already?!
Rayne - Third book? Epilogue - total HSQ !!! You know. . . for me.
I swear, those books have some of the best HSQ of any series I can remember reading. Seriously having to put down the damn book and walk around the room going "Holy Shit!" for a while.
Seriously having to put down the damn book and walk around the room going "Holy Shit!" for a while.
S. keeps saying at the end of every episode, "The shit is really going to hit the fan now!" and I say, "...you said that last week, babe."

Right? Having somebody else read them just a little while after you do is the best, because you can get all that validated.
The entire third book destroyed me. I'm normally a silent reader, but I caught myself gasping out loud on several occasions.
The worst part about reading these books is that I usually "share" what I'm reading with my boyfriend. He's not a reader (which makes me horribly sad), but he's always asking me about what I'm reading and I love to tell him everything that's happening (oh the fun we had with Twilight!) But since we're watching the series together, I didn't share anything with him. That was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do!
When I finished the last book, I felt horribly sad because I wanted more, and I knew there wasn't more. (I was so immersed in this world for six weeks it was hard to let it go.) I'm sure that feeling will be worse after A Dance with Dragons because then I know it will be a loooooooong wait.
I had to stop and walk away after the red wedding. like, OMFG, how could that possibly happen? Shocked. Appalled. And impressed. I just wanted to go scream and jump up and down with someone but my friend who is also reading the series is a book behind and was flagging...i encouraged him that book 3 really brings the hurt in a good way.
