Finally seen the first episode of Game of Thrones! Wow, i'm amazed at how much text can be so succinctly conveyed in an hour of film. Truly a picture is worth a thousand words here. I love the interactions with the kids and how well the Stark family relationships are laid out so quickly and effectively. Don't love Khal Drogo's heavy eyeliner (seems unnecessary, his presence, musculature, and coloring alone next to Dany get the point across quite well) and am again reminded how much more interesting the saga could have been had Martin gone against the north=fair, south=dark stereotype.
As for ages, the kids are definitely aged up to some extent. At least 3 times in the one episode it is pointed out that Bran is 10 (and watching him climb! i might have squeed) and Sansa tells Cersei that she is 13. If Arya is still between the two of them in age then she would have to be 11 or 12, i would guess 11 to get her as young as possible, unless the screen version is gonna try and make her younger than Bran. Rickon looks to be at least 7.
I have episodes 2 and 3 waiting but really do need to get to sleep. Boooo.

I definitely agree that the pacing was way off this episode. Did I catch correctly that Tim Robbins was the director of the episode, or was that last week's (I watched both back to back)?
Tim Robbins did last week's, I thought he did well.
I did not recognize the writer's name this time...admittedly I tend to collect facts like that the way men collect session players or baseball statistics, but I'm just saying.
This one was just okay. I mean, it moves stuff forward, so we need it to shut up those critics who are always sniffing that "Nobody has enough to do," on Treme, when everybody who has watched "Once More With Feeling" knows "The hardest thing in this world is to live in it." I suppose Antoine and his bone are supposed to fight crime or something.
I didn't need to see the crime, either, but we did need to see something. When the detectives show up, it doesn't make sense.
My own Stray Observation: Jeannette got bitten on the ass by a quote from Kitchen Confidential, Bourdain's chef memoir, which I recommend enthusiastically.
The quote was "I can teach you to cook, but I can't teach character,"(Which I don't think AB would apply to a pro like Jeannette...more like her roommates, but I digress.)
I liked the parts with the musicians, though.
I would say that Annie missed Sonny a little, and felt bad for not believing him, too.
Anybody else suspect Jeannette doesn't have a job when she gets back from New Orleans? That chef seemed like a big enough dick to pull something like that.
It could happen, yeah.
It would also get her back in the Crescent City so she can be on the same show with everyone.
