A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

NYT on Game of Thrones: [link]

It seems the writer has never met a geeky girl. Or, as Felicia Day put it via twitter, "Nobody puts geek girls in a corner!"

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Girls don't read fantasy! Or long books! Icky!

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I guess all the telepathic dragons and cats I remember from my fantasy-reading days as a teen were targeted at boys?

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Is Game of Thrones worth watching if you haven't read the books?

I think so, if you like this sort of story. It's not like you won't be able to follow what's going on, they are doing a really good job of conveying all the information you need so far.

I forgot that I had meant to re-read AGoT before the series started until this afternoon, so I just read the first 80 pages, figuring that was a tenth of the book. Just about right for this episode, so maybe I will keep doing that.
