I've never read the books, but isn't there a fantasy element? That new trailer makes it look like it could be historical fiction.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration
It is fantasy, but the fantastic elements are pretty subdued, especially in the first book. It reads like historical fiction a lot of the time.
