Always Anti-fascist!

Really? Cause I thought he was USAian and worked in the UK. Not that his performance was anything less than faultless and awesome, either way. If he is a Brit, long line for The Wire accent Prize! I love Lester.(I thought maybe that events of(sniff) the last season would alter that? But, no, still full of Freamon love. Which is beautiful, but if taken literally, possibly TMI.)

Punishingly Intricate

Lester Fucking Freamon. Or, at least, Clarke Peters.

That's CRAZY! dag.

Oops, Erika's right: [link] I'd always heard it the other way. Anyway, the dude's natural accent these days is more Brit than American.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Lt. Daniels is getting the band back together!! Woohoo! Even if it's a shitty detail. I wonder if every season is like this. I mean, the show is called The Wire, after all. You have to figure they need to work in, well, a wire at some point.

I'm getting a little more drawn into Frank and Nick, but Zig is a dumbshit jerkoff. Can he die so they can bring Wallace back to life? That's how it works, right?

THEY NEED CHEMICALS TO MAKE BOMBS, YOU IDIOTS.

Did McNulty seriously give his ex-wife stolen headphones??

The dinner scene with Daniels and Kima and their significant others was awesome. Obvious and on-the-nose, but awesome.

I'm a little confused about Stringer's schooling. Why did he go through all that car-switching cloak-and-dagger to get to his class before? Did that just look more complicated than it actually was? Because I thought he was keeping it secret from his crew to retain his street cred or something, but he's studying in front of them.

Also: how did McNulty know that Omar was back in Baltimore? Shouldn't he have been looking for him in New York?

There's always a wire, man. It's one of them whatchamacallits. Metaphors.

Is that so?

Obvious and on-the-nose, but awesome.

I agree with the awesome, but disagree with the other two adjectives.

Why did he go through all that car-switching cloak-and-dagger to get to his class before? Did that just look more complicated than it actually was?

I think the complication wasn't so much about deceiving his crew as the police and college. But you may be onto something. He was more crafty about it when Avon was on the street.

how did McNulty know that Omar was back in Baltimore?

I'm not sure he did. I think he was just figuring that someone would get word to Omar.

What's the wire a metaphor for? The crumbling art of communication in a modern world?

Is that so?

Yeeeah, so I was wrong about that.

I agree with the awesome, but disagree with the other two adjectives.

Well, it didn't show anything more than we expected. We knew both SOs would be upset. The actual visuals were obvious, but the way of showing them was clever and well done.

I think the complication wasn't so much about deceiving his crew as the police and college.

Ah, the college. Good point. Especially because ha ha ha, Stringer basically just asked his professor for help running a drug trade.

But you may be onto something. He was more crafty about it when Avon was on the street.

Dun dun DUN!

I loved his little "class" with the rest of his crew. Teaching with the Socratic method! Although I feel like the techniques he's "learning" are things he already should have known or had been doing. I mean, last season, didn't they already put the same shit out with a different name? The yellow tops? It sounds to me like what the professor was really implying was that the Barksdale crew should distance themselves from the Barksdale name. Perhaps the Bell crew, eh?

Beadie is purdy.

Always Anti-fascist!

I think you'll find that every scene in The Wire serves a purpose, even if it's just to set up a parallel between the many worlds the show juggles.

What's the wire a metaphor for?

I think it's a metaphor for the thin line between right and wrong. Not that I think for a minute that the writers believe in absolutes, but instead see most everyone crowded around a moral (or even an amoral) gray area where the thin line of judgment is hardly ever clear. To the characters, at least, although it's often unclear even to the viewers. You think Bodie and Poot had a choice about whether or not to take out Wallace?

Okay, I love that Omar loves myths. And that all he brought for "courtroom wear" was the requisite tie. And everything he did while on the stand. I am officially going to be sad when he dies, although, as the lawyer pointed out, it will have been a long time coming. I think I read his death is sort of lame, though. Hope it's better than Keller's, at least.

What the fucking fuck, Zig? Burning a hundred dollar bill? Can someone please kill him? Too useless to live, that kid.

What was D'Angelo flushing down the toilet? Was that the drugs he was kicking?

Patterns! Patterns in the cargo! I heart detective work.

Aw, prison book club. Also, I haven't mentioned it before, but I love that dude who's peddling comics. Hee.

And then: THEY FUCKING KILLED D?? I HATE THIS FUCKING SHOW. I know I predicted a tragic end for him from the get-go, but I thought he was safe since he survived the season. And he was such a good kid, resolute in his new path. WHO THE FUCK ORDERED THIS? I hope it wasn't Avon, because I have a certain liking for him and cannot believe he'd order the death of his own nephew. Was it...

OH. MOTHERFUCK. THAT CONVERSATION IN THE CAR. SONOFABITCH. YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO QUOTE SO MUCH MORE FUCKING MACROECONOMICS TO MAKE UP FOR THIS, STRINGER BELL.
