Now that I've had a few minutes to think about it, I'm formulating a theory where it turns out that Bob Dylan is the fifth Cylon.
I may need more caffeine.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

it seems to me that Chief and the others were quick to identify themselves as Cylons. Is it possible that the answer to who/what they are isn't quite so simple?
I think they are Cylons, but that the Final Five are a different sort of Cylon than the 7 we've already met. The screener I saw a few weeks ago didn't have the effects finished, so I didn't realize that they were AT the nebula when the "switch" was flipped and they all woke up -- I'd already been assuming that the Final Five were connected to Earth (because of the song - I can't remember another instance of a real-life song from Earth being used in the show), and now I'm sure of it. The music gets increasingly louder the closer they get to the nebula (and therefore Earth), and I think it's being close to Earth that activated them.
The thing that is ridiculously awesome, and here is the part where I put on my music nerd hat: 'All Along the Watchtower' is a song written in reverse.
Huh, really? I'd never heard that before. Do you know why it was written that way, maggiesox? (And welcome!)
So it turns out that I *love* the idea of Chief, Tigh, Tory, and Sam being Cylons. LOVE. Like, I was ready to give up on the show, but this (and the reappearance of Kara) has sucked me right back in. I'm excited to find out what they'll do now, and what their mission was (or if they'll ever know for sure), and whether or not they're fundamentally different from the Cylons we know already, and what's going to happen to Chief and Cally's baby. Oh -- it just occurred to me that Chief being a Cylon might go some way towards explaining that scene where he beats the crap out of Cally (which was never really explained, was it?). Hmm.
BSG: Of course we would have a song that has been picked apart and analyzed bunches. Shiny! The Final Five are different from the rest but we don't know how they are different. Bad ass revolutionary different? Or the four may not be Cylon at all, but have been deluded into thinking they are. I'm thinking more that they are Cylon, but not on the same mission as the others.
eta: Welcome maggiesox!
I'm amused at the All along the Watchtower stuff. Especially since I made this quick-and-dirty music video of the season two final three minutes last year.
(23 MB, WMV)
Jessica, I'm thinking the same thing: the final five (assuming that Kara is one of them) are activated by closeness to Earth so their mission has something to do with earth.
And was "All Along the Watchtower" one of the songs in the Voyager space probe?
Welcome, maggiesox. We hardly ever bite new people. Well, unless they like that sort of thing.
I love Claudia Black like nobody's business, but Claudia, honey--you gotta work on that accent. It's still wrong.
I think her American is better than Ben's ,strike>Sebacean Australish.
This and This.
But what was more wrong than that was seeing Jeffrey Spender all bronzed and oiled up and if I put my hand over his face I didn't mind it too much.
Really liked Lee's speech, the way it was written and the way Bamber delivered it (loved Lee's whole pissed-off/petulant attitude when he first gets in the witness box "I SO do not want to be here!")
I thought Claudia was a lot of fun on Dresden Files last night. It amused me to have English Paul and Australian Claudia doing their American accents to each other.
And did any book folks wonder if having the incubus be what it was mean that there won't be any White Court Vampires ? So no Thomas Raith ? Which would make me sad. . . who would you cast as Thomas ?
