The renewvelated Treks I've seen haven't been done badly at all, IMO -- the only really intrusive addition is the commentary from the geek next to me on the couch, who can't help pointing out Every New Sound Effect...

Alas, not only can technology not conquer the Geek Effect, it in fact tends to make it even more intense.
