You know, on Monday, I was discussing Doctor Who with people, and I was fairly "meh" on Torchwood. Having watched the last two episodes of the season, however, I'm now ZOMG TORCHWOOD!!!!1!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Dammit. Are you telling me it does actually get good eventually?

Our wings are not tired.

I'm now ZOMG TORCHWOOD!!!!1!

I finished the season last night with my son. He was of course totally grossed out with the kissage, but otherwise loved it. I have to give the overall season a Yay!

I haven't finished Doctor Who yet although it is sitting there waiting for me. The only explanation I have for this is that each time I watched Torchwood I was wanting more more more. With DW I am more relaxed and will get to it when I get a chance. It just didn't pull me in the same way.

I may feel more enthusiasm when I finish the season. I did watch the Christmas special and was full of Who love.

For me, this season has been very flawed and uneven, but episode 112 was just... damn.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Looking back at the season, I'd say that Torchwood's strength is really the smaller character pieces, since the big crashy plots tend to make no sense. Unfortunately, I suspect they'll keep focusing on big crashy plots.

Also, re: episode 113:

No, not the bit with the TARDIS. I can't decide if the bit at the end with Jack forgiving everyone was a) nice, because Jack has been a major fuck-up in his time, and he understands and genuinely forgives them or b) sort of a "No Exit" kind of thing, where all of these damaged, lonely, and in someways horrible people are just going to stay trapped with each other forever.

I kind of like both, honestly.

Thrive to spite them

I'm caught up on Torchwood except the last two episodes, which I'm saving. And I realized I never saw much of S2 Dr Who so I'm rewatching that.

I did watch the season 2 premerie of Supernatural. Oh Dean! Especially when Sam and John were fighting and ghost Dean is trying to stop them and keep the peace. I realized I don't know what John whispered to him but it coudln't have been good and just added to the weight on his shoulders.

Yes, it was uneven, but in the end they made me care enough to want to come back for more. The balance of character exploration and adventure of the week is odd at times, well much of the time.

I had a number of nitpicks with the Torchwood finale. For example, bubonic plague is not transmissible person-to-person, it requires fleas which live on rats. I know there are more rats about than we like to think, but there is no way that many people could have been affected that quickly in a hospital. They should have chosen pneumonic plague, which is a droplet infection, but nobody's heard of it, and no lovely photogenic buboes.

Also, whatever happened to Bilis, or will we find that out some other time ? And I thought the ending was a bit of a mess - we saw a few people who had fallen through the rift disappear, but why was Rhys suddenly alive again?

But on the whole, I enjoyed it, and I did like the Tardis appearing.

Somebody asked about potential crossovers: I believe Captain Jack has been scheduled to appear in the third new series of Doctor Who for quite a while. Jack Barrowman is going to be busy this year .

shrift, I was talking to grit kitty about that long-sleeved black shirt of John's (no, I'm not sure how we got on the topic), and I thought you might appreciate the results of my googling.
