I think people have speculated that he could be some sort of dreamwalker like the little Indian kid, since Peter had that vision about him before his death.

Too late. The Office is already a success. Coupling's forgotten.
Lucky for us that Coupling didn't take off. It left Colin Ferguson free to do Eureka and Rena Sofer to do Heroes (See how I brought that back on topic? :-) ). The irony is that Coupling was the British attempt at doing a show modeled after Friends and they pulled it of with high style and fantastic chemistry. The reason I don't think it translated back well is part of the charm of the UK version was some very frank conversation that would not make it past standards & practices here in the states.
The Office had a better chance of success because we already get office humor (with or without the irony). Dilbert and Office Space are perfect examples. I still prefer Ricky Gervais in the manager role to Steve Correll, but that's just me.

However good Coupling could have been, I prefer Colin on Eureka. I think the main reason Coupling failed is Jeff. He's a very delicate balance of adorable and really sick. US!Jeff couldn't pull that off, not even close. Also, chopping scripts was done clumsily.
I'll be very interested to see Jane's touch on BSG, since I don't see the show as pushing back the darkness at all, and the lighter moments (to me) never get lighter than tenderness (like Admiral and President)--I don't believe I've laughed even a handful of times.

Agreed. I'm really starting to suspect it's a facet of Peter's abilities more than anything else ... his genral "empathy" having been emphasized so much.
