Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So there are a finite number of lines per model, then?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

It's never been addressed, has it? I don't see any reason why there would have to be a limit to the number of each model they can create, but maybe that's why they're so keen on perfecting biological reproduction?

[eta -- It also seems, though, like the personalities within any given line don't vary much unless they've been sent on some kind of long-term isolated mission, like Caprica, Sharon and Boomer were. So if they created another Six tomorrow, the only thing to differentiate her would be her memories.]

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

bastages ate my edit, now what the hell did I just say?

I'm guessing that while some models can have experiences that shape a certain personality, that it's only the Really Important Information that gets mass-distributed, not just upon downloading, but on something like a weekly/monthly update, for those in range. But perhaps some of the Cylon are beginning to cherish their individuality and refuse to share that, or it's just like I said before, and it's only the pertinent info that gets mass-distributed? It also makes sense that the Cylon on the front lines, the sleeper agents and the undercover operatives immersed in human culture start to develop certain personalities from their experiences, from what they're forced to do, the humans they interact with, whereas the Cylon in the rear, knowing only Cylon society, remain somewhat blank.

I remember vaguely a discussion of this over at TWoP regarding how much Caprica!Boomer (now Mrs. Agathon) knew of Gal!Boomer's life on Galactica in order to fool Karl.

And, interesting that Brother Cavil is explaining how painful it's getting for him to download. Is this because he's a faulty (older?) model, or are all the models experiencing this, which makes Leoben's obsession just that much more frakked up.

Art Crawl!!!

I love how when they realize that the two battlestars were decoys, doral turns to Baltar and asks him where Galactica is.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

Just catching up due to being away for weekend.

Enjoyed DW a lot, amidst the angst and wierdness, there was a whole lot of funny in the is episode.

BSG totally kicked my ass. It just rocked like a great big rocking thing and I loved every minute of it.

I agree that I think Ellen knew she was drinking poison. And, in regards to the preview for next week (wfing because other people are, but I thought aired promos were fair game) I can totally see Tigh punishing "collaborators" considering he had to kill his wife for being one when she was trying to save him. If she had to die, they all have to die from his perspective.

I just hope Gaeta is able to prove he was the resistances inside source, because I really like Gaeta and would hate to see him killed over a horrible misunderstanding.

I think someone last week asked why Gaeta was part of Baltar's administration in the first place. It made perfect sense to me. Gaeta's always come across as idolizing Baltar since the mini series. I can totally see him both voting for Baltar and jumping at the chance to work for him. Once the Cylons invaded and everything went to hell, he probably remained because he felt he could try to be a voice of reason, and barring that, help out the inevitable resistance movement from inside.

Back to this week's episode:

loved when Galactica came burning down out of the sky to drop the vipers and then jumped.

Yes this. And I loved the little moments while it was plummeting like Helo calmly reporting "15,000 feet and falling like a rock" or whatever it was and Hot Dog's "Well, this should be new" as the Vipers launched from into the atmosphere through the flames of re-entry and the Galactica crew on the ground staring up at it in complete awe.

I also loved the bit at the end when Adama shaved his mustache and then walked the halls, smiling at all the bustling people. Everything was back as it should be.

ETA: I was pleased to see my first theory about Kacey was right with her just being a normal human girl, though it wasn't clear she was the baby from the mini and both her parents obviously weren't dead. But I was close.

I loved that Kara tricked Leoban and killed him yet again, but I still don't get Kara falling so hard for Kacey in the first place.

Torchwood torrents are hitting.

Anyone see them yet? I only watched the first episode (as I'm an hour ahead of the UK, the second one went way past my bedtime). Will watch the second, the one with scenes of a sexual nature, tonight before bed.

If anyone had any doubts that Russell T. Davis worships at the alter of Joss Whedon, the first episode of Torchwood dispelled them pretty quickly. The whole thing started with ariel nighttime shots flying over Cardiff, for heaven's sake. OK, so Cardiff, while it's not LA, is still quite pretty from above at night. All those big roundabouts .

And then, the super, major surprise plot twist was right out of the Joss handbook. Like on page one.

I thought it did an excellent job of establishing it's position in the Whoverse, while making clear that it's separate. Loved loved loved the major revelation about Captain Jack. Otherwise, though, I think it's probably still trying to find its own identity, separate not just from Who but from the myriad other shows trying to do the same thing, but that's fair enough after one episode.

The leads are good, and all nicely established in the ep, and I like Gwen very much. (Maybe it's the Welsh accent; I've had a soft spot for Welsh since Ivor the Engine). The chemistry between her and Jack is good. Mind you, the chemistry between Jack and just about anything is good.

I'm not out-and-out happy; the atmosphere was subdued and I was tired. But they've done a pretty good job of establishing an interesting premise and I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop it.

ETA: the more I think about it, the more I think that Who is Buffy, and Torchwood is Angel, and that the comparison is fairly explicit. What do others think?

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

And, interesting that Brother Cavil is explaining how painful it's getting for him to download. Is this because he's a faulty (older?) model, or are all the models experiencing this, which makes Leoben's obsession just that much more frakked up.

You know, I was wondering about that. I don't think he could necessarily be a "old" in the human conception of old, but it does make me wonder why they chose a distinctly more aged model. I mean, there are obviously benefits associated with it--we saw that when he played Bro. Cavil as a Cylon agent on Galactica. It is interesting as well that it gets more painful to download--I suspect an argument could be made that the more distictive a personality a Cylon sub-model develops, the harder it is to re-distribute, re-download that personality. Cavil has obviously become unique among the Cylons, more apt to acerbically question or be sarcastic or break rank where the others wouldn't. I wonder if there was a certain trial-by-pain for the Leoben model too, where every time Kara killed him, he came back more brittle and more crazy because his distinctive model was re-downloading. It seems to be different from, like, the Xena-cylon, and the other male Cylons.

The reveal of Kasey being this woman's child was a shock to me. An enjoyable one--I didn't think I had the chance of being shocked by the end of that incredibly awesome episode.

Haven't watched Torchwood yet, it's downloading at home. Did they show two on one night? Because I only saw torrents for 101.

Yes, they started the season with episodes 1 & 2, though from now on they'lle only air one new ep on Sundays. But they're repeated Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC 2.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Both are now available at the usual suspects.

ETA: Downloads completed. And now I have to wait at least 12 hours to watch them. Damn work.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Do I need to see Doctor Who before I start watching Torchwood? I've only seen the first couple of the recent Who, but y'all have got me interested in Captain Jack, what with all the sex talk.
