I'm personally rather puzzled by the phrase "exclusive cast interviews". I'd want a lot of convincing that she got all these people to agree to only talk to her.

Hey! I just did an exclusive interview with Strega. At least, I think it was exclusive. Unless she's whoring herself out to every sleazy fan with wet dreams of literary stardom.

I found this thread when tracking my site's statistics. Wow! Now that's a lot of comments to swallow. lol. But here I go!

Okay here's my answers to all of the above:

1. There is MORE then enough room for other authors to write about the BTVS/Angel fandom community. How many books are out there now that have just basic episode guides and biographies? Yet new author's keep repeating the method by using it. In fact in many of my posts about this book I stated "I hope this will bring more authors around to discussing this fandom community."

2. No book is the same. You could have the same ideas, but everyone's writing is different. Which is a GOOD thing. It gives people options.

3. ALL of my exclusive cast interviews are JUST that. If I advertised that I had them and didn't that would equal to a couple of MAJOR lawsuits. Which frankly is not what I want. All of the people listed (whether it be an actor or a band) did consent and grant me an interview solely for this book. And exclusive means that "the" interview I had with them was exclusive, not that they can never talk to anyone else.

4. Because it is a biography/resource guide it will include links so that readers can use them instead of having to take the time to do a google search. Goofy or not.

5. A word of advice. Don't be afraid of competition. It's healthy. I'm not doubting for a minute that your book will be wonderful and have a different message then mine, as you would have wrote it, not I. In fact over the last 2 years (which is the length of time this book project has been in affect) I have spent my time buying my competition's books and studying them to find out HOW to be different and HOW to offer something new.

7. And finally...I hope you do take this for what it's worth, as it is the truth - I wish you great success in your project and I'm sure that your book will be a success! There is plenty of room for the two of us, and I for one, would be interested in reading your take on this incredible fandom community.

Allyson, I've got folding money that says your book will be different.

One thing to remember is that in general, books on a certain topic expand the market for new takes on that topic. Readers aren't going to say, "Now I know everything I need to know about fandom dynamics," or "I've read the definitive Regency comedy of manners romance and will now move on to other settings." They're a lot more likely to think, "This is interesting. My appetite is whetted, and I'd like more of this."

Now, don't get me wrong, mum has a PC, and broadband. She even spams me. But referrer logs are beyond her.

After I got in trouble in the first grade, for writing a note that read, "I hate you ________ _______," (with a blatant and mean misspelling of the little girl's last name), my father did tell me never to put anything in writing. I suppose that could translate to referrer logs, in this brave, new world.
