I fear I am not large with Amber love myself.
I read one one high recommendation from a friend (
9 Princes in Amber
, I think) and just didn't spark to it.
I think I might be more of a short story fan, though. Any particular collections to recommend?
Dunno about the collections, but Betsy's right, and "A Rose for Ecclesiastes" is quite brilliant.
Astarte, all the short stories are good. He's astonishing at it. Some are more pastiche, some are deeply heroic and human (my taste runs toward these), some are universal puzzles - they're all superb.
I've been trying to think of something constructive to say about all this week's drabbles but I'm coming up with nothing. They're just amazing and ita's makes me homesick for a place I've never been.
For my own Blue drabble, all I can think of is the Blue's Clues theme. I'm leaving that one alone. At least I've got another few days.
Okay, I'll keep an eye peeled for the short stories then.
Because I need more books. Oh, yeah.
Count me in as another who's now looking for Zelazny short stories - will have to look on the next trip to the bookstore. (They're still in print, yes?) And I may have to try a novel as well; it's been way too long since I've read any good SF or fantasy.
On everyone's enthusiastic recs, Zelazny is moved up next in the TBR mental list...
ETA: And Deena = me re: trying to find something constructive to say about this week's drabbles. Deena, I think you should write about Blue's Clues! Hee. But all the drabbles have been so vividly wonderful.
AJill, I'm fairly sure the bulk of Roger's stuff is still in print - he was incredibly prolific.
I actually curled up last night with Unicorn Variations. I hadn't forgotten it, but there are a few stories of his that I flatly adore - including Dismal Light, which began as a kind of drabble (in concept, not length) because Roger was trying to figure out how his character, Sandow, would behave - that I hadn't remembered as being in this particular volume.
Home is the Hangman. Oh, man.
Of course, we're in completely the wrong thread for this discussion - since the writing threads are half the threads I subscribe to, I tend to misremember which one I'm posting in.
Last on Zelazny--I've got to rearrange my library so I know which ones I've got. I know I've been duplicating from the used book store because I can't find a book when I want to read it.
'sokay, Connie, I wandered into Literary and pinged them. My take on Roger's stuff is slightly off centre, but I bet Micole has recs for miles, for those about to read him for the first time.
