Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Betsy, yup. Including from the conductor, who said, "I really have to stop doing that."

Always Anti-fascist!

I just got an annoucement about a new disability book coming out. I've now repeated my mantra. "There's room for All of us...all the books." Although I still fear I'm being too honest, writing this.(I have a way of that, you may notice.)

Who? moi??

I will be arriving from a proctor gig in Daly city. Have the mapped directions and everything. My gig will probably end about 1:30. Plenty of time to get there.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I don't get it, Erika? Is it that it's a shitty book?

No...well, I don't know...I've not read it. And we're only tangentially fishing the same pond anyway.(he's a big Disability Culture geek and real academic and shit. and someday I'll outgrow my teenage urge to curse and pop my gum when I talk about stuff like that.I swear).it's just that I used to always feel that somebody else would say it better anyway so why should I try to do it? Just my own neurotic stuff. And the honesty thing, not about that book...I'm just betting my book's darker than his... (shock theater, eh! Not that it's even close to being anything) but his thesis is that disability has a sexier image now, or something. I think nobody'll ever want mine. My movement can only take so much reality, y'all.

The sexy image of disability?

Hmm. That's...no offense, Erika...but that I don't see.

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

it's just that I used to always feel that somebody else would say it better anyway so why should I try to do it? Just my own neurotic stuff.

Even if it were the exact same subject, no one else will be writing with your voice.

In case you haven't noticed, that voice is bittersweet and lovely like dark chocolate with a hint of raspberry eroticism. (eta: and I'm not talking about "sexy disability" either.)

Nobody else I've ever read has it. Not even close.

Well, in some very underground places, but everybody doesn't read those...I'd love there to be a Crip Fear Of Flying, or hey, I'm not picky, Rubyfruit Jungle was great too. You know, something that makes a big splash(so to speak...um. Oh, for a different phrasing...)

Someone has to write it. Why shouldn't it be you?

Heh. I LIKED that phrasing!
