Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

The best (clearly a joke) comment on that recipe on the Food Network site:

ITALIANMAMA

My little ones did not like this one bit and neither did my husband who will eat just about anything so I doctored it up a bit with an italian dressing packet (did I tell you I am Italian? LOL) and a can of cream of potato soup. They still didn't like it too much so I will keep experimenting. Thanks so much anyway for trying.

Hahaha!!

I am cleaning my house FOR REALZ, going to the movies probably, who knows what else.

"I asked Leif what it was going to take to get him to quit throwing things and hitting Emaryn. His answer? "Lots, and lots and lots and lots and lots of gallons of water." I said, "You mean if I make you drink lots and lots and lots and lots of gallons of water then you will stop doing that?" "Yes," he said."

Well, it would certainly work if he ended up stuck in the bathroom!

I have never seen the show, but just heard it described. After seeing some of the recipes....um...from scratch would be healthier AND easier in many cases! Amuse yourself with her cocktails: [link]

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

So, what are people doing for the Last Weekend of Summer?

Meeting one of my "We have to get together sometime" (and then never do) buddies for lunch and pedicures on Saturday. Looking for used reference books to take to my new job (my Chicago Manual of Style is over 10 years old—probably doesn't even have an entry on web referencing) on Monday.

ETA: Yay Matt! That's great news about your dad.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

How come no one told me of this!

You're not lurking in the right places--TWOP, theperfectworld. You gotta get out more, bon.

I will be catching one or two movies, subbing a class (which isn't really porny, honest) and maybe doing errands. MAYBE. I do need to just laze around.

OMG and the TABLESCAPES: [link]

Librarian Warlord

IIRC it just means he was using gov't money to pay for his racing horses.

Actually, I think the problem was that he was doing whatever horse owners do to administer their racing horses on gov't time. So he was billing the gov't for his services when he was actualy doing horse stuff.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

So, what are people doing for the Last Weekend of Summer?

Going to Maine (although technically there are still a few more weeks of summer after Labor Day) for a family event. I was started as a joke at the family weddings this summer that we were going to show up at my sister's for Labor Day to have a cookout (which she was all "Ok" about) and has know expanded so that all but 1 (or maybe 2) of my 7 siblings (plus selected in-laws) will be there. The upshot of which is that I've been bumped out of the accommodations I was going to stay in (Mom's) to my brother's house (with his wife and their five cats). *sigh*

I like staying over at my brother's, but I usually only do it for what I think of as real family events (Xmas, for example). This was supposed to just be an off the cuff cookout, not a big too-doo.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Dude, I've been lurking EVERYWHERE the last couple of weeks. I guess they saved the best for last?

Also things I did not know about: I've finally gotten into House. Will Cameron ever become not-insufferable?

Punishingly Intricate

I have never seen that Sandra Lee's show but just thinking about her and her recipes makes my head hurt. Her "White Nights" cocktail with Hersheys (TM) syrup and Folgers (TM) crystals??? WTF?

Speaking of Food Network, has anybody seen the Ace of Cakes? I'm wondering how it plays outside of Baltimore.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Will Cameron ever become not-insufferable?

The character and the actor who plays her are definitely the weak links in the show.
