What is even happening?

Five year olds usually like to color/draw/paint/write. They usually like balls, bikes and books. He may be too old for blocks, but Legos, bionocle and the like are usually a hit. You might get him an inexpensive (even a disposable) camera. They like music. Five is really a lovely, lovely age.

My six year old suggests toy cars, Play-Doh, and "everything else."

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

when did you send the invite to the meeting?

Tuesday. I need to get on top of checking and rechecking before the meeting day even approaches. Because people are people.

I don't know about elementary, but I do know middle school here is by test. I have really really really mixed feelings about that. But it's hard to compare that to what I've known. There are a lot of other factors at work.

My parentals are getting god knows what, but already have things purchased for the trip here to keep him entertained.

My nephew's favorite entertainments at the parents: turtle, spray bottle, cranky grandpa.

I am such a minimalist when it comes to toys. Not minimal as in few, but as in basic. I still think the best toy ever is colored wooden blocks. Kinda wish I had a set.

If I were to have kids, they'd probably hate me.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I still love Legos, but not stepping on them in bare feet. OW!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Brio train sets are a big hit at age 5. They're fun and simple and extremely durable. It's a bit of an investment but they have a cheaply priced starter set (figure 8) where you can try it and see if he likes it.

These are the wooden tracks that fit together
