Pluto, which does not meet the modern definition of a planet, is classified as such, because it was so designated, before the definition was standardized and adopted.

Or, as Sarameg phrased it, "NO ONE IS TAKING CLYDE'S PLANET FROM HIM DAMNIT."

I think Cindy's approach is very reasonable, which is why they probably won't do it.
