I was saved from the popular activity in my high school years of coating oneself with baby oil and lying out for hours by my intolerance of boredom (it's hard to read in full sun) and heat. Little did I know what a good thing that piece of asocial behavior would turn out to be. I did have a few awful sunburns from going to the beach, particularly in the dark ages before sunscreen.

I'm in the "don't tan, no really." Once upon a time I might have been able to get a light tan if I carefully used sunscreen, but after many years of acne meds I avoid the sun as much as possible.

I tend to transform into Lobster Man on first exposure and then gradually build up a medium tan (in years where I get repeated sun exposure at all). But I'm still amused by the summer of 2000, when I got tan enough to be rejected by someone who refused to date Latinos.
