I would be all over this one like white on rice, in view of current religious and political jockeying. Just how much can political oppression or directive influence literacy, regarding the information that is withheld or edited to suit the desires and goals of the government in power? This one would be my meat.
Hec, I'm aware of your prospect for the future, in fact I've been wrestling with it all morning and refusing to lay it out for my nearest and dearest as one possibility. I did discuss it in email with a close friend, who has assured me she's fine with being used as a virtual punching bag. But while prepared for that eventuality, I have to try to believe in JZ's more positive outlook.
What's complicating things further is that his ex has custody of the kids. They lived in a very rural, economically depressed county, and the court system there has an automatic bias in favor of the mom, unless she can be proved to be pimping the kids out, or a falling-down drunk or crack addict. Hos apparently have more rights to the kids than dads do. He has been working on getting his life together and preparing to take on the courts to get at least partial custody, but it hadn't happened yet. So things are complicated by the fact that she may simply deny us access to the kids, can tell them anything she wishes about his condition, and also prevent them from visiting us and therefore, him. So we may have a court battle on his behalf in our future, as well, if he's to preserve any sort of relationship with his kids.
There hasn't been any change in his condition, which is good, since he hasn't deteriorated, and normal, since they told is he could be this way for a week "or more." And bad, because I miss him. And I may always have to miss the person he was.
