If this is name-your-favorite-80s-movies night, I gotta add Repo Man to the list. It's *so* LA.
'Heart Of Gold'
Spike's Bitches 31: We're Motivated Go-getters.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Hey, plate of shrimp!
I was just mentioning Repo Man to Paul, as part of my trying to explain who Henry Rollins was. (Involving Black Flag.)
I don't know that Heathers belongs in the same 80s category with the rest of those movies. To me, it feels more like the beginning of the 90s asthetic.
True, it does have a 90s vibe (although it definitely came out late 80s) but I think the conversation started with teen movies of the 80s so Heathers sort of works as a send up of that whole genre.
Hey, plate of shrimp!
ha!
We just watched it again recently. It really is tweaked.
I almost totally forgot to post this. Saturday's Rose is Rose made me say MiMi is one of us.
I tried to rewatch Repo Man a couple years ago, and just couldn't do it. Found it impenetrable. Heathers was one of the few 80s movies I saw on first release. 1980-1987 were not big years for me watching American movies about teens.
AAAARGH. Why am I awake? I want to be asleep! But I suddenly woke up and am coughing and coughing. Stupid hotel room. Stupid lack of cough drops. Stupid body. Argh.
Once Bitten. . . another movie my sister and I watched too much of as girls. Our favorite line was "He doesn't want you because you're mean and evil. He wants me, because I'm nice, and sweet, and pure. So fuck off!"
Because, you know, she said "fuck."
Pump Up the Volume -- it was early 90's, right? Oh, loved! And it had a great soundtrack.
meara, I feel your "I can't believe I'm awake" grrr. Ugh. 4 a.m.
Oh meara, I hope you got some more sleep, and that you feel better, today. Traveling sick is awful.
But that was the point! (Plus young James Spader -- hubba hubba.)
He needs to call me.
I can never resist watching it, but truthfully my love is all for Lloyd. I kind of blur my eyes when Ione Skye is on screen, especially with her dad. Although I will admit I love the very last scene with a pure, true love.
I'm AmyLiz in this regard.
OMG, yes. Jim Carrey before. Just...before.
Ooh! That's how I feel about him in Peggy Sue Got Married.
I feel so out of this conversation. Those were all no-no movies while I was growing up, and it's hard for me to watch them even now. I've seen a few, but not many. So sad...
