Oh, just because I now wear a size 8, she says casually.
Wow! Nice going missy. Haven't seen size 8 in 15 years. Again I say Wow.

I even tried on some sixes which fit.
Now that's just bragging! (Go you!)

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Very cool, Robin! I saw a place offering roller skating lessons in Monterey and thought of you.
I like billytea's plan for dealing with unsolicited advice. I think you are within your rights to yell at people who tell you what you must do, JZ. You can always blame the hormones if you want to. Or counter with "OMG, how can you suggets that? ' Raising Babies Safely in an Unsafe World specifically forbids that on page 257!
That doesn't sound good, d, I hope it goes away.
I don't have any specific place that feels like a hometown. Driving through golden hills dotted with oak always feels like going home, though.
"I know what you must do and everyone else is WRONG and probably trying to KILL YOUR BABY OMG"
Some variant of "Thank you". If you're feeling snarky, "Thank you for being concerned." The unspoken "and now please fuck off" is generally understood.
Be warned, though; being in public with a baby leads to floods of unsolicited advice. I once had a total stranger scold me on the Boston T because my girl baby wasn't wearing pink.

Yay! -t doesn't want to KILL YOUR BABY!
Italia! Woo hoo!
megan, the French outplayed the Italians in the second half. No doubt about it. It was very nerve-wracking. Zidane's actions were troublesome. It's a shame that his career will end on such a sour note.
flea, I've searched my mental filing cabinet and I couldn't find the memo on Casper v.2. Congratulations!
JZ and Hec, I don't think I've ever actually said "Woot!" and "Yippee!" for the impending Zmayhem sprog, so woot and yippee! Do whatever it is you want to do, and let everyone else go to hell. It's your child, not theirs.
Good luck to Nora and the Empress on their first days of new and better jobs.
Hometowns--my parents brought me home from the hospital to the house they still live in, in PA. It's my hometown, but it is not my home. No matter where I live, Italy will always be my home. DC is comfortable, like a favorite pair of shoes, but there's something missing. I couldn't tell you what, though, and I've been in the metro area since '92. DH and I have significant roots here, but my heart is in Italy. DC feels more like a mistress--strong and very favorable emotions--but it's a long-term infatuation, not a deep and abiding love.
The only two places that could rival Italy are NYC and San Francisco, but I doubt I'll ever have the opportunity to call either "home."

Bless you for that. I think both teams can be very proud of the way they played. It was a good game. Luckily, I realized early on in the match that I didn't really care who won--I had mostly just wanted them to beat Spain and was happy they made it as far as they did. '98 in Paris was so magical that this one couldn't even compare--so I could relax and enjoy Zizou's last game.
And then he plucked out my heart and stomped on it.
JZ, they are all insane.
Hec and I both want a dresser with a curved changing pad on top so after diaper-changing is done with it can just be a plain ol' dresser and it's one piece of kid furniture we won't have to worry about.
This is what we did. We got a dresser (free! from the House of Mom collection!) that fit a $20 curved changing pad, was the right height, and blah blah blah.
A: pads have straps. B: my friend with the 7 month old has one of the fancy tables, and it is no more secure than mine, drat it. C: floor? WTFever, man. They don't start seriously squirming off the table for MONTHS, anyhow.
There is no D.
You know, we never run out of wear at home diapers in my house. Occasionally, I'd claim we run out of clean diapers, but that would also be a lie.
We do run out of clean, stuffed, ready to go diapers.
Sometimes.
Then we dip into the All-in-One stash.
This would be why we're always taken by surprise when we run out of the send-to-daycare diapers.
I suspect

Yes, this. The Serie A scandal in Italy had me rooting for the team like never before, because I wanted them to rise above the noise and prove that there is still magic left in the sport.
enjoy Zizou's last game.
Oh, I was. The penalty kick was something, and the missed header late in the game was sheer brilliance. His footwork leaves me awestruck every game.
And then he plucked out my heart and stomped on it.
Did he ever! It was so far over the line that he crossed timezones. His temper can be shorter than a five o'clock shadow at ten am. This is not the way he should want to be remembered.

Love this!
Did you ditch the birthday? Or watch on tape?

Yeah. I want to hear what Materazzi said to him, but it doesn't matter. I kinda wanted France to win so he could really become one of the truly elite greats of the game, like Pele and Maradona because his talent and the way he played, at 34, merited it, but he bolloxed immortality up special. He'll still be remembered, but not quite the same way. The outcome was kinda moot for me after that little episode. Italy is still too negative/defensive for my purist liking, but the Azzurri played very professionally and with class that others lacked. They deserve it.
