I'm sorry I missed the massage discussion. Sad for those who don't like people touching them, my dad included. Mom, however, minds not in the least when I work on her.
For peeps with tired hand issues, I like to recommend (and give away) raquetballs to all my clients as self-massage tools. They're smoother than tennis balls, so can be used on skin or clothing. They're firm enough to give some pressure (esp on owie parts), yet squishy enough to not bruise. Roll around (without grasping, cup in your hand only!) on troublesome areas. Good for RSI self-massage too. To self-get shoulder blades, put between a wall and your sore spots, then lean into wall and roll around.
If you prefer to use hands, you can use (ulnar border or pinkie edge) forearms, lightly closed fists/knuckles, and judiciously placed elbows when fingers are tired. I would only use elbow as last resort, and only if you are SURE it won't slip. Do NOT use pressure over bones, although a little work directly on the scap can be good for the infraspinatus in the rotator cuff. DO NOT use a lot of pressure over the bony bit of the spine! Directly off to either side is useful, though. The back can take a lot of abuse pressure. The neck needs slightly gentler work, especially in the front.
I have no use for spas. I like massage to be corrective, which tends to be on the painful side. I tend to give that, as well, given that I work in a chiropractic office.

Nah. I mean, you can, but the SF Way Of Fernet is a shot with a ginger ale back. None of this wussy chilling! The Argentinean way is to mix it with Coca-Cola, which could be refreshing.
