Just a heads up on road conditions:
I-90/94E from Minnesota is open (one lane in a few places, but open)
I-94W from Milwaukee still closed between Delafield and Lake Mills. Road closure expected to last another week. They're talking about making one of the east bound lanes into a west bound lane, but that could be slow going as it's only 2 lanes per side. There are back roads that can be used, too, but they're kind of herky, jerky. If you're interested, I can gen up a set of instructions.
Sail, I'm not sure how doable this may be, but I-43 to Delavan. Take the U.S. 14 exit (West or North) to Janesville. At Janesville, you can either take Business 14 to I-90 West, which will put you on the east side of Madison, or you can stay on regular or bypass or whatever they call it 14, which goes into or becomes part of the Madison Beltline.
It's been a long, long, long time since I've driven on U.S. 14. But I don't remember a whole lot of red lights between Delavan and Janesville, and only one small town where the speed limit drops. On the down side, it's one lane each way.
That would cut a few miles off the trip, Fred Pete. If folks don't mind two-lane state highways, there's a number of other options that won't take them as far south. We'll just have to wait and see what lane closures are still bunging up the works by Friday.
Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these Buffistas from the swift attainment of their Bacchanalian revels.
As an added attraction for the gamers, Lake Geneva is just a short hop off I-43. (Exit at Route 50 going east. I don't know whether the Dragon gaming shop is still there.)
We're flying into Milwaukee on Friday so I'll probably check in with the board on Thursday night to see what the best route would be. I travel with a GPS so hopefully between directions from folks here and the GPS to help us out we'll get there in decent shape.
Yeah, brenda. I'm trying out a new route tonight (I decided to go into work today, I just can't afford to take that much time off), I'll let you know how it works. It takes me down into Fort Atkinson on county roads and then out of Fort on highway 12. You can see what I'm talking about here, if you zoom in below the red stripe over I-94.
