And since we've got a confirmed block, with code numbers and all, and with all the discussion you had, I think there's a fair chance.

Want me to call and cancel my reservation just to be a shit? (And remake it of course, I'm not taking some kind of crazy stand here.)

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Okay, dayplanner says I talked to Lucia on April 3 about having a party during our stay. She was leaving for vacation so turned me over to Shannon. On April 4, Shannon and I had a conversation about where the room block was and I posted: SailAweigh "F2F 4: Too Much Candy, Never Enough Mojitos." Apr 4, 2008 9:00:47 am PDT.

At that time, I told Shannon I would have to consult with everyone where we wanted to stay for rooms and if, BIG IF, being that if folks wanted to stay in the Quality Inn versus the Candlewood, we might look at another venue for the prom. Big if, bigger might. Once I called back and said Candlewood for all, it should have been a big old cluestick that we wanted to hold our prom there, too. I haven't been able to get in touch with her personally and work has been insanely busy, so I finally left a message on her voicemail yesterday to confirm Candlewood. She called back today on my voicemail (I hate voicemail) and said "okay on the rooms, ixnay on the prom, we gave the room away."

What do you guys think? We talked on the 4th. I wasn't able to get back to her until yesterday, the 14th, and even then I had to leave a voicemail. I'm starting to kick myself now, because the couple times I called before that she had already left for the day and I just told myself I'd call the next day. The next day didn't always happen for phone calls, though. Work=insane.

Do you know when this was? When did they give you the code for the rooms? ETA: Regardless, I think that's definitely worth a call.

I called back yesterday to confirm Candlewood, brenda. The room block was already signed for as of April 1st. When I talked to Shannon on the 4th, she said the room block would be for the same number of rooms either place, so it was just a matter of me telling them Quality Inn or Candlewood. Any reservations would go under that block code no matter where it ended up. When I talked to her on the 4th, I said I would get back to her the next week. It took me 10 ten days, a little longer than I wanted.

I say let Vortex loose on them so long as we keep in mind that these people may make the Prom not a lot of fun for us if we get a bad rep as a group. Not that that's fair, but it is possible. But honestly, I don't think that saying, "Our room block was contingent on getting the event space; we may need to look into other hotels altogether if you can't work it out" is out of line in the least. Not sure if it will work and it's a bit of an empty threat, but who knows.

I don't think a Friday night Prom is doable since a lot of people can't even catch a flight until that night, and the prices at the other place seem steep, so it will depend on how much money we can raise in the next six weeks. It's good that it's just across the parking lot, but it sounds like the venue itself isn't really a good place for dancing...? Or am I misunderstanding?

No, Friday's are a bad night. Too many late flights and folks who can't even make it in until Saturday because of work.

The Great Dane is on the other end of a parking lot from the Candlewood, Kristin. Think of it as a strip mall with the Quality Inn on the south end and the Candlewood on the north end. The Great Dane is near the end of the strip closest to the Quality Inn. There's also a cute little Russian restaurant! Maybe we should invade it for prom.

Sorry Sail, I went back and read and then changed my post. Didn't mean to make you look crazy!

Given everything, I think it's worth a call from Vortex to see if there's any chance.

Our wings are not tired

So to be a total PITA, if we switch to the Great Dane, can we switch our room block to the Quality Inn?
