There's also a bus service running from O'Hare to Madison. At least, there used to be back in the '80s, and I can't think of any reason it would have been canceled.

Yeah, but if I was there and WisCon was going on, I'd want to go to that. And be bitter if I couldn't. Or be torn between hanging with Buffistas and going to con stuff. Much as there would seem to be a synergy in the two.
This. If I'm going to the F2F, I want to spend time with Buffistas, not be torn between other Big! Fun! Events! and then be resentful that the con "stole" my Buffista time, or vice versa.
