DCistas - save the date! The family flea will be in town Saturday July 7 and looking to meet up for an earlyish dinner at a very child-friendly place (suggestions?), DC/NoVA. We'll probably be staying in NoVA and if anyone has hotel recs I also welcome them. You can have your chance to meet these impish creatures: [link]
I'd happily take this to email if people want, or if someone can subscribe me to the local list (if it's working).
flea, what area of NoVA are you looking at? Because we had good experiences staying at the Residence Inn at Fair Lakes when we had our flood (was that 5 years ago already?), but it's about 20 miles outside DC and not really convenient for touristy things there.
We're visiting friends in Arlington, and may hit the Folk Life Festival. I've been recommended to look in Rosslyn by someone.
flea, cool!
What are you looking for in a hotel? I think I've stayed in all of them in Rosslyn. They are all much of a muchness - you get either the named chain highrise type or the somewhat seedy independents.

Also, the Suzi has landed. A little delayed due to tropical storm Barry, but Mal and I had dinner with her last night. Mal demonstrated his appetite for destruction by leaving our booth in favor of one with glasses and knives.
We are looking for cheapness without skeeziness or incompetence, basically. Free parking is a plus, but it looks like most of them have a reasonable fee ($10).
flea, forget my recommendation. It's a long way from Rosslyn. Or even a Metro station that could get you to Rosslyn.
Sunil's in town and hoping to get together for dinner tomorrow night. Who's in?
Tonight? Damn. I can't, because I'm going to dinner at Charlie Trotter's.
Roommate has been talking about it since forever, someone gave her money to do it, and I guess we're celebrating her recent birthday and my very belated birthday?
I just hope I don't embarrass myself. I've been to fancy places on the company dime out in Beverly Hills and Princeton, but this is a whole new level of fancy, man.
So, you can get Charlie Trotter's to go - but it's more of a catering thing than a take-out deal.
You must tell us if eating at his restaurant is like watching his show. I mean, will there be jazz?
