F2F 4: Too Much Candy, Never Enough Mojitos.
Plan what to do, what to wear (you can never go wrong with a corset), and get ready for the next BuffistaCon: Madison, WI from June 20-22 2008! Official website.
I definitely prefer to keep to our established order of moving the F2F. Some folks can only attend when it's in their region, and it would seem unfair to just jump around now.
True, but unless you are volunteering to be the set-up person for the East Coast this year, it doesn't look like there's going to be an East Coast F2F.
Which, don't get me wrong, I'm totally bummed about, but I'm getting the feeling that lives have gotten busy and overwhelming as that is what they are wont to do and/or there hasn't been much luck in finding things that are affordable.
Were you planning on coming out to the East Coast for the F2F?
and/or there hasn't been much luck in finding things that are affordable
That sounds like it could be a big problem for the east coast, especially in cities like New York and Boston. I know we got a killer deal in SF, but it seemed to be a one-off in terms of finding everything we needed in one venue.
Of course, having a pro handling things didn't hurt and I, for one, feel a little spoiled now and it would be hard to expect anything less at further F2Fs. So, maybe we're setting our expectations too high with regards as to what we expect from our point people. That can be awful intimidating to folks trying to pimp their city.
I could list all the fabulous reasons to have it in New York, but that's about it. We never took advantage of Philly when we lived in PA, and aside from the usual tourist attractions, I don't know much about the city.
And while I would be happy to pimp either, I don't know if I could be set-up person, between the kids and the deadlines.
It's October. F2F is traditionally in May. People are busy. I think it's a little early to write off the East Coast.
Even without pros all of our F2Fs have been pretty grand, I don't think anyone should let that notion get in their way.
What were our talked about cities?
Boston
New York
Chapel Hill
Atlanta
Any others?
Yeah, I wouldn't panic just yet.
Maybe, but the past two years we've had the dates and city chosen by now, and last year we even had the hotel so that we aren't scrambling at the last minute. It's also easier to get better room rates at this point. It is October, but soon the holidays are here and no one really has time and then it's almost February.
And honestly? I'm not panicking. I'm just saying, more peopl ehave expressed an interest in having a Nashville F2F more recently than anyone expressing a want to have an East Coast one. If that's the case, then it shouldn't be discounted.
I put in a request for bids at Somerville hotels. Just 'cuz. We'll see if anything pops up.
I'm just watching everything for 2007 F2F. I know that no matter where it is, I won't be able to go (okay, if it's in Chicago, I can, but I don't think that's happening). I'm going to be student teaching and broker than a broke thing in the spring.
