You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Or BROKEBACK HIGHLAND "I wish I could quit ewe!"

Definitely New Zealand then.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Or Wales.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I think, given that the ACTUAL CAR CRASH WAR hasn't sunk in, trying to change her mind is probably needless stress for both parties. Probably a better idea to just make sure that are rational viewpoints being stressed as well.

Our wings are not tired

Mom and Dad are also the type that vote straight down the republican ticket every time. Dad quit watching election coverage before the debates last time. Didn't want to be bothered by any more of it. Both of them never miss voting and never vote anything other than republican.

At least now I know I'm adopted.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

People can have disconnects about their world versus the Big World. My nephew wants to join the Marines when he graduates from high school next year despite everyone in his family being vehemently anti-war--and being anti-war himself. His personal politics and his interest in the military don't connect up somehow. Rationally, he knows he would have to go to Iraq if he joins, but the part of him that is attracted to the challenge and camaraderie and history doesn't care.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Durn Foreigners.

Damn kids.

I adore all you motherfuckers so much -- PMM.

A classmate of Alicia's (call him R) came home safely from a tour in Iraq with the Marines. Another of their classmates wasn't so lucky.

R expressed surprise that I was so glad to see him that I hugged him when we said good-bye, even though we had not met before. He was, shall we say, of a different political persuasion than I am, and seemed to think that would be a problem. My response was profane but heartfelt: "I don't give a good goddamn if you come home and vote a straight Republican ticket for the rest of your life. Alicia and I are not so blessed with good friends that we can afford to lose them to this fucking meat-grinder."

I'm going to stop this story here, before I get all ranty-cakes.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Definitely New Zealand then.

Or Wales.

I was thinking Scotland. To paraphrase the Stones: "Hey MacCloud, get offa my ewe!"

Ann, that's a ferret.

Robin, I know you didn't ask for advice, but has your nephew considered ROTC? It may not solve the basic disconnect, but would (1) get him a college education, (2) let him enter as an officer, and (3) delay entry for four years, during which things may change for the better (or, admittedly, the worse).

Herding cats for fun

(whew) Finally reached the end of the F2F post. Go me.

Saw the vids and the pretty pictures and laughed at all the snark. Now I miss all my distant friends terribly. I do wish Jilli could work Apparation or Miracleman could get his transporter going. Then we could all be fabulous at the drop of a hat and fight crime, too.
