The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

...one of my ancestors had the distinction of being the youngest Confederate General. Yay?

Stephen Dodson Ramseur?

They said nice things about him: [link]

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Quite good! A little rambling as to what its actual point was, but lots of nice sharp dialogue. (And some of it surprisingly blunt, like hearing Julie Andrews say "Oh god, I hope I don't get pregnant!", which is I imagine part of what landed it in the Controversial Classics box.)

Huh, no -- William Young Conn Humes, who doesn't appear in Wikipedia at all. I may have my facts wrong (maybe he was the youngest when he was promoted, or something?) See, if I'd made it to Cincy tonight I could ask my dad, since it's his family.

Looks like he was the youngest CSA general to survive the war.

eta: I only knew about Ramseur because of the unusual name, and because he was an alumnus of the college where my Dad (the Civil War buff) used to teach.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Today was utterly and totally frantic and sucky, but soon all your SA will belong to me. YAY

Ah, that was it! Well, I was close.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Huh. Our ancestors may have crossed paths, as the Venters were originally Dutch mercenaries hired by Bonny Prince Charlie to aid in his war.

Ooh, and mine too, since my great-great and so on was Charlie's personal physician. Then he was a general in the Revolutionary Army.

I've never looked into the DAR, for a host of reasons, but I'm pretty sure it's only one descendant per revolutionary, so I'm sure some old lady in New Jersey has my spot.

Aimee, you could always go for the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire like my maternal gramma.

Or she could just accept that she's a Buffista, which is much cooler anyway.

ION, I am having a serious boggling because around this time EXACTLY ONE WEEK AGO I was getting ready to head out for Sushi with Buffistas. And in only 3 hours from now it'll have been a week since the Friday night HS debauchery kicked off.

A WHOLE FRIKKIN' WEEK, PEOPLE!

I am a-boggled by how time passes.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Pete, I'll see your boggle and raise you popped eyes in disbelief. I feel like I just got home yesterday and even that is too damn long since I actually kissed, er....saw, a Buffista.

I've got a great-something or other, Benjamin Muzzy, who was born in the US in 1789, but I believe the family is stumped with him for now. Otherwise, I'd rather lay claim to being the head of the Campbells here in the US since the Duke of Argyll is something like my 5th or 6th cousin. We're all royalty! So, the Empress is aptly named.
