Everyone's pics are marvelous, a lovely way to hang onto all the foamy and funny and snark. Fay's, however, are made golden by her captioning. Curses! Someone who's seen behind me affable facade!
Pretty, pretty people. Where peeps go? (snif)

Also? The whole "how you pronounce amyth and amych" discussion? I have no rationale for my "ammitch" preference, but my pronunciation of amyth is simply short for amethyst.
I pronounce it 'ammitch'. Because that's what it looks like. And 'ammith'. Ditto. .
To me, words ending in ch (but not tch), look like transliterated Hebrew. So that's how I pronounce Amych.
I am with Fay, though I suspect with a longer A sound at the beginning.
I pronounce them both with a long a sound at the beginning.
The pictures are fantastic.
And 'ammith'. Ditto.
But amyth looks like "a myth," which is how I say it. With a long a. But a stress on the first syllable, of course.
I have no idea why, but I've always read amych as "aim-mick". Or is that what Jessica was saying (not knowing anything about Hebrew)?
amyth gets a long "a" from me, too.
Tom Scola took some great pictures. And I'm not just saying that because there's a nice one of my DH and I in the bunch.
What I really want to know is, how the heck did Perkins avoid his camera, even on the aquarium day? (Tom, if she threatened you, you can tell us.)
I usually say, "amy-c-h" or "amy-t-h" in my head.
Tom's my friend. IJS.
