I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but what are people planning to do about their tv habits when original programming dries up? Is anyone planning on cancelling or downgrading their cable package?

I think the WGA has asked people not to watch reruns and replacement programming like the rush-job reality shows we'll be seeing.

This is my plan. I have a Netflix queue I need to catch up with anyway. But I won't cancel cable right away, because, well, the strike will end eventually. Also, it's bundled with my phone and Internet. I just don't intend to be a leming TV watcher.

I thought about this a lot. Chances are they already own those DVDs, and aren't necessarily buying new copies of older programs/movies? (This might be justification on my part...)

See, I've been thinking about the DVD thing because, well, I like buying DVDs. And while I normally buy stuff off the Amazon Marketplace, in which case only the middleman makes money anyway, I don't know how practical not buying DVDs at all is, especially during gifting season. I think that since the WGA took the DVD residual issue off the table anyway, and they do get money from them (just not enough), I shouldn't feel too scabby about buying DVDs. I'm not watching streaming video on the websites, though; I'll be looking for any sort of "webisodes" to appear on YouTube.

That's what my friend Maria said, and I agree with her, but I am torn. I mean, I watch A LOT of TV, almost all on DVD, since I am never home and do not tivo. I have huge, whole shows that I can catch up on, Like Heroes and Veronica Mars Season 3, etc, etc.

My cable is bundled with my phone too. And I watch things that are not scripted tv: such as weather, news, etc. Are we to stop watching that too?
I will definitely be working through my netflix queue. It's outragiouisly large anyway.

Neil Patrick Harris hosted the evening. He came out onstage, started reading from some 3x5 index cards and halfway through the sentence, "Last night I was just thinking..." he stopped and looked really confused. He turned the card over. Checked his pockets. And then shouted into the wings his card was blank and he didn't know what to say next. Out walked a red shirted writer carrying a WGA strike sign and the whole place errupted into applause. Neil Patrick tried to carry on, calling on some dancers to vamp as he tried to come up with some material. I wish I had my camera at the ready. It was priceless. Keep your eyes peeled! Hopefully something will show up on YouTube or Flickr!Fight on! Kate
