Jesse, I'd be happy to send money to you, to help out with the NY gifts if that helps.

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
I could paypal you halfsies, Jesse. Otherwise, You might not get stuff til next week if that's cool.
My understanding is that they can get replacement writers, just not anyone who is or ever wants to be WGA.
I read that the show runners were officially supporting the writers, so even if they have scripts in hand, the other production stuff that could go on without writers, can't--not without show runners.
ND, how are production peeps set for unemployment? I know it often doesn't pay the all the bills but it can keep the larger wolves at bay. They'd be eligible if they were laid off through no willful acts of their own, right?
I feel badly for everyone that will suffer from this strike--because a lot of hard working people will be hurting if it drags on for a long time.
Lots of production peeps are inependant contractors who are hired as needed. As a result they aren't so much laid off as just not getting any calls for work. It makes unemployment very difficult for them.
I thought that might be the case, ND. Which sucks even more.
If we end up with too much money, is it okay if I put some aside for things like baking cookies, or perhaps a rainy day striker umbrella fund?
I'm good with however you allocate it, Allyson -- cookies, rainy day fund, sending half to Jesse for NYC writers -- whatever.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys. On a selfish note, it always makes me feel awesome that you trust me like this.
Hell, you've more than earned our trust.
Many thanks to Polgara for donating the bags and for helping me schlep to Fox.
Thanks, Polgara!
Yeah. One of the guys I'm friends with does amazing blood and wound effects so he gets called on shows like CSI and medical thillers when they need specific effects. He was booked on a few upcoming projects and they are all just gone now. He understands the writer's plight but has a hard time being supportive when he's lost his income. Also, since he's below the line he never gets a piece of the back end so he doesn't have any residuals coming in.
The best, clearest, unbiased article I've read yet summing up the current situation, aptly titled: Why the Striking Writers Are Right
Donors Choose question....
Did anyone else get a $100 Gift certificate for donating? I'm asking because I'm trying to get V, an elementary teacher, to set up a proposal for bookmaking supplies like crayons, paper, staples etc. and I want to know if anyone would be interested in using their $100 GC for that? It might take a week or a little longer to get it all set up.
