Why encourage people to do something that is completely ineffectual? What next? Clap your hands together and wish real hard?
I was joking with the arm waving. Ultimately, I don't know what people can do which is useful other than tell people 'bout the show.
Laura, I want to apologise to you and others who are trying to avoid ratings (etc) talk. I'm a large part of that problem, and although it's relevant to Minearverse (arguably) there's no way to avoid it if it's here. So I shall stop talkin' 'bout that stuff here for that reason.
It is great fun to watch and works on multiple levels. It is rare that I find a show that we all enjoy. The 12 yo loved the cars; the 15 yo was interested in who was behind the race. DH was watching while working and had the most shallow of comments about cars, and of course, boobs. It was very satisfying for me after all the anticipation. I was afraid I wouldn't enjoy it and then found myself hooked.
Monday! I want to know more. I want to see more. Wouldn't hurt if some stuff went boom too.
Now I just want more people to discover the good stuff!
You know, the thing which I most love about Drive is how surprising it's been. I really did think from the outset I'd hate Winston and Sean. There was no way I was going to like those characters. And? I love them. It makes a great couple (in a very non-fanfic kinda way). Also, Violet and John is just a lot of fun, as I think Violet's often the adult one in the situation.
Just poking my head in briefly to say that we finally found time to watch the two-hour premiere and really liked it. Running away from scary other stuff.
I love the blipvert pans from car to car.
Yeah, this! It was unexpected and works so well in many ways. It's a supercool effect, and it looks stylized and great, and it gives a ton of information without referring to an atlas, and it's a reflection of current pop technology. I love it.
I do dislike Sean. And do those preppy rich kids still wear Polo shirts and pale-coloured pants? Hasn't that been their uniform since at least the 80s.
I don't think the Sean actor is very good. I like that the character has been given more range, but his default demeanour is still wooden to me.
The black chick who's been driving annoys me, and the blonde who wasn't shot is beyond irritating. I'd have shot her and waited for the race organisers to keep me safe.
I still say fiery ball of death for the Lairds. Something about them doesn't work for me. But then, I don't think I've ever liked a military man on a TV show. I'm still hoping Alex's Challenger has a talking computer.
And do those preppy rich kids still wear Polo shirts and pale-coloured pants?
They do in Florida! Sean's not a favorite, but I don't dislike him.
Irritating blonde seems too purposely irritating. I'm holding on forming an opinion on her. I agree that a fiery ball of death would be a good plan for the Lairds, but DH likes Ellie, big surprise there. (eta: she showed up in a bra, his needs are basic)
Wendy will probably grow on me, but I am not sold on her yet. Mostly I want to know a lot more about them all. But please, not in a Lost flashback way. I like the way the expositions have been done so far.
I'm very pleased with the visuals, the pacing, the feel. It made it all the more annoying when the commericals came on though. It was jarring to be tossed out of this entertaining space.
DH likes Ellie, big surprise there.
She provides two things I like: red hair and cleavage.
