I'm not sure if this is the best thread for this, but I'm leaning with it being on topic because of the Firefly references and because it deals with the kind of show that Tim tends to do (that is to say, good ones).
Ok. I've just been watching Keen Eddie, and I just love this show. Reading online, I guess it would be even better with the original music that didn't make it on to the DVDs (I would go on about how shows should get DVD rights for music when they create the shows in the first place, but that's a rant for another time). But I love the dark, the humor, the snappy writing and the clever acting. Love it. Of course, it would be yet another Fox show that was cancelled after 13 eps. Grr. But aside from that, I've been thinking about what makes me like this show so much. What's similar to other shows that I love (like Firefly ) and liked a lot (it reminds me a lot of Eyes )? There are definitely things that I don't like about the show. In particular, I think that the visuals, and often the sound effects, are too choppy. I know that style is popular, but it tends to give me a headache. Still, I really like this show. I have decided that it comes down to a few things. The acting and writing are outstanding; it's dark, but that is relieved with humor; and the setting is just fun. Ok, having a pretty cast doesn't hurt either, but Baywatch had a pretty cast, so I'm not counting that one.
So, writing, acting, dark with humor, and a bit of pretty. Who would have thunk that these would be the things that are important to me in tv. I just find it interesting that the specifics of genre, style, etc., aren't all that important to me as long as they're done well.
