It predates chatspeak by a healthy amount. And bits of it have gained more inroads into the way many of us speak.
I like Variety-speak. They are having fun with language, and it's a tie to show business history. Variety has been around FOREVER (since 1905), and it's nice to think of cigar-chomping impresarios in the 20's reading the same kind of words as we do now.
I love "skein" as show/story.
Scribes agrees, but is over long with response.
I'm with Robin. I enjoy reading Variety-speak, even if it can get a bit more than a bit ridiculous.
