The Minearverse 5: Closer to the Earth, Further from the Ax
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
Yeah, yeah, Tim's all great and and smart and nice and everything, whatever! We already knew that. What about my smoker's report on the Marriott? Helloooo? I'm serious about buying you dinner!
Jeez, you act like this thread is all about Minear or something.
Well, Minear was smoking outside on the patio of our press suite when the Men's Health and Fitness lady came in to interview him.
I couldn't tell if people were smoking on the upper floor balconies.

That might be the best thing I've ever heard. Just because I imagine a conversation that goes, "How do you stay so fit?" "I chainsmoke! Next question?" And then Tim morphs into Hunter S. Thompson, which is disturbing on a number of levels. I think I need to sleep more.
Was the patio on the inner ring of the hotel? I was (randomly) guessing that the rooms on the outside of the building would be more smoke-tolerant than the ones that overlook the pool.
It's probably too late, and my vague memory is that it might not be public transportation friendly, but there's always the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. It's great. There are gorgeous gardens (yeah, the Mediterranean and English style gardens may be more appealing to an Alaskan than to someone for whom a primrose is not only a house plant). More importantly, it has a gorgeous library.
No, I'm not at all biased by the pretty books. And the fact that I'm at the Internet Librarian conference (with free wireless in my hotel - I could seriously get used to this) is just a coincidence. Really.
The product of an hour's worth of nervous tension is now up.
It's a great interview Jackal. One of the best pieces I've read in ages.

If, after he morphed, he eats the head of the Health & Fitness reporter, then says, "And I eat right," I think you've got yourself a pilot, Strega.
I'd say the worst experience: when I was threatened with castration at Worldcon by someone in a large audience during a Q&A -- he was angry because of the bad messages my work is sending to America.
Ha!
It's even funnier because I imagine it being Greenwalt, all, "Bad for me; bad for America!"
That was a lovely interview.
So glad I wasnt at the castration threat event. I think I would have become violent.
