Question: Will hiding in a cavern with stockpiled chocolate goods be any part of this plan?

I have never been certified for anything, well, except CPR. Nothing job related. I am sure I could get something out of the PMBOK, but I can't even find the time to figure out MSProject for our projects, so I don't see it happening anytime soon. And the idea of taking classes is below undesirable.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

And some HP UX certs I forget the details of. Now, I've never used a box running HP UX, but why should that stop me being certified? When the company needed to be able to sell something, as tech manager I was handed the certification requirements list and got to decide who took what. If we just needed one, I farmed it out to the team. If we needed two, I took one and passed one exam on.

I can't even find the time to figure out MSProject for our projects

Do you do GANTT charts? How do you perform resource levelling, and rescheduling when dependencies wiggle?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

No one has any thoughts/opinions on drunk pigs fired from cannon?

ION.... imagine this news item being read by cat newscasters:

Del Monte Foods Co. agreed to buy Meow Mix Holdings Inc., the second-largest dry cat-food maker, for $705 million from Cypress Group LLC to add to its Kibbles 'n Bits and 9 Lives brands.

Del Monte also agreed to sell its private-label soup and infant-food businesses to TreeHouse Foods Inc. for about $275 million. Meow Mix had 2005 revenue of about $250 million and will add ``meaningfully'' to earnings in fiscal 2008, San Francisco- based Del Monte said today in a statement.

...

``The divestiture was definitely a positive,'' Atlanta-based Susquehanna Financial Group LLP analyst Tom Morabito, who has a ``neutral'' rating on the stock, said in an interview. ``Either you have branded or private label. It's tough to be both. I do think they paid too much for the Meow Mix business.''

Shit's all sorts of different now.

When making pot roast in a slow cooker, how important is it that you sear the meat first?

I'm not seeing which rights are being violated, though. There's nothing there indicating that they're creating their own set of laws.

Homebuyers in Ave Maria will own their property outright. But Monaghan and Barron Collier will control all commercial real estate in the town, meaning they could insert provisions in leases to restrict the sale of certain items.

I'm sure many businesses won't set up shop in this place due to the restrictions. If other people are willing to fill in the gaps, that's fine with me. If not, also fine with me. I would definitely like to own the closest 7-11 outside the town limits, but maybe I'm cynical.

Mostly, I think Ave Maria is Latin for Royston Vassey.

We are 20 people total. I mostly manage the time of myself and 2 others.

I have done GANTT charts when trying to get going in Project, but then I stopped.

Basically we do not have a great handle on resource use. For the 2 people I manahge time of most I use a white board with all current tasks on it and I start and end each day numbering them in order of priority. low-tech right now in order to keep a tight hold on things.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

When making pot roast in a slow cooker, how important is it that you sear the meat first?

Searing will improve the flavor and color of the finished roast, but it's not crucial.

You know what can work too? Post It Notes. I prefer Project, because I can get things to ripple out easier, critical path, yadda yadda, but the portability and easy colour coding of the Post It Note do have its uses.

HP UX is pronounced by seasoned sysadmins as "H-Pukes". It, along with AIX, are things that I deliberately avoid learning about even though they're things I'm likely to encounter in my job.

If I'm going to learn something, then I *learn* it. i.e., it's not just knowing the sequence of steps to perform a task, but getting under the hood and really knowing how things work. And these systems suck badly enough (and have a low enough market penetration), that it just isn't worth my time to figure them out on that level of detail.

We never sold a single HP UX box the time I was there. Which was great, since I'd have no idea what to do with a real live one. The other certs were based on work I did, although I did have to study specifically for the tests.

I just never know what sort of Unix I'm ever going to bump into. Each time seems to be a new sort.

My GOD. The noise in here is killing me. Not painwise, but I totally can't concentrate on complex tasks with the person in the cube next to me yelling into their phone headset. Why did the quieter one have to move?
