Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

When you guys hear the term "digital divide" who are you seeing on either side of the rift? Other than, obviously, those all up in technology and those who aren't? Who are the haves and who are the have-nots?

serial:

Director Robert Luketic has abruptly quit the big screen remake of the hit 1980s TV show Dallas, because he was unhappy with some of the casting choices. The Legally Blonde film-maker was set to start shooting in October And key cast members are still being finalized. Among those actors already on board to play members of the Ewing clan are John Travolta as JR, Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen, Luke Wilson as Bobby, and Shirley MacLaine as Miss Ellie. A source tells US magazine People that the director was unhappy with some of the studio's choices for the roles and decided to walk away from the film. No details were given regarding which stars the director objected to. Doctor Dolittle director Betty Thomas is being considered as a possible replacement for Luketic.

I'd leave over the first two quoted casting choices, myself.

Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow stunned diners on Tuesday night when she ordered what looked like raw fish and then downed a beer. The star was dining with husband Chris Martin at the New York City sushi bar Cube 63 where Paltrow ordered a salad and what appeared to be sushi, which is thought to be potentially harmful during pregnancy. Martin left the restaurant to pick up several bottles of Irish stout Guinness at a nearby deli and when he returned, diners were surprised when Paltrow, who is five months pregnant with the couple second child, drank one herself. According to a witness, "People were looking and waving, and she just tried to melt further into the corner." Some health experts recommend a little Guinness for expectant mothers because of the drink's high iron content. A representative for the actress confirmed she drank the alcoholic beverage, but said she ate only cooked food, not sushi.

Raw fish !≡ sushi, people. Stop swapping back and forth that way.

Well, on th other side from me, 75% of my mother's students. It is poverty, lack of access, lack of education. My elderly neighbors, which is less abject poverty, more age, lack of access . I mean, some of them cash their social security checks in the bank, then pay the phone bill at the Verizon store, etc.

digital divide-

I put myself and those who have money for a computer, or are able to access a computer/internet through their community/library/school/job on the "have" side of the rift. It's a combination of having the resources and the desire to use them.

I also think of those in developing countries that may not have the infrastructure in place, even if they had the personal resources to access them. So a slightly different than the other categories of The Other Side Of THe Rift From Me, which also include:

1) people who do not have the personal resources (money, community) and/or priorities to have access to the internet

2) people who couldn't give a rats ass about the internet (I am thinking mostly of people who are older/senior citizen-not all, of course- didn't grow up with it, don't need it, don't care)

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Who are the haves and who are the have-nots?

I think I had the same reaction to that article as you did. I never viewed the divide the way they do, but rather as the rich vs the poor.
