I actually have the bibliography typed up already -- had to hand it in yesterday. Now I need to get the useful stuff out of the books and stuff and into the paper. Which I have yet to start writing. So it's less about the citation and more about the two good quotes I'm going to want to use, once I find them.
Natter 43: I Love My Dead Gay Whale Crosspost.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Jesse, stop posting here - GET TO WORK!!
Okay word nerds....
Is there a word that means stevedore, but on the boat, instead of on the dock at port? What's the onboard job title of the guy who's in charge of all tha cargo.
I feel like there's a specific word for that position that I'm not remembering.
I am getting to work! Slowly but surely. I have to have a draft done April 10 -- I'm trying to be proactive here!

Loadmaster?
(That was a complete stab in the dark.)
eta: That seems to only apply to aircraft.

Supercargo? I know that's a word for someone or other on a ship.

Supercargo?
You two watched the same Discovery Channel program recently, or something, didn't you?
Heh. I think it's fun to look at that list and note which trades and professions became surnames. And also? "What's a stevedore?"
The First or Chief Mate is responsible for the maintenance of the ship and proper stowage of cargo. He handles the fore deck in tying up, is a good navigator, a thorough seaman, possesses the necessary qualities of leadership and will assume command of the vessel in the event of the master’s death or inability to command the ship. He stands the 4 to 8 watch.
Not sure if that's what you want.
eta: more:
The First Mate has direct responsibility for all deck operations including cargo storage and handling, deck maintenance, and deck supplies. He or she will also assign and monitor watches and will be on smaller ships the medical officer.
